'Oysters, Mussels and Seafood'
"Arcachon is renowned for its oysters. There are plenty of them, they're good and not half as expensive as you may have thought. Mussels are also in great abundance here as well as many other "fruits de mer". If you like seafood then you'll enjoy the freshness of it here."

'Wine-Tasting'
"You are in the area for good wine. The Medoc is worth a visit where there are plenty of châteaux to choose from and sample the local wine. Visit the tourist office just around the corner from the apartment for details of excursions to the chateaux"

Local Area and Activities

'Canoe/Kayaking'
"A short drive to the River L'Eyre where you can hire a canoe or kayak for a beautiful and tranquil paddle down the river. You can go for a half day or a full day and the hire company will collect you from your destination and bring you back to the start where you left your car."

'Cycling'
"Either take your own bikes or hire them locally. There are miles and miles of really flat, safe and beautiful cycle routes to explore this lovely part of France."

'Golf'
"There are golf courses at Arcachon and Gujan Mestras which are a short distance from the apartment."

'Horse Riding/Trekking'
"Horse riding/trekking excursions can be made from a school at the base of the dune. Trekking usually takes place along the beautiful pathways that criss cross the pine forest."

'Jetski Hire'
"Jet ski hire can be made from a number of schools and clubhouses that are dotted along the shoreline of many of the beaches around Arcachon."

'Paragliding'
"There are a number of paragliding schools that operate from the Dune du Pilat. Courses are available or you could always go tandem."

'Thalassotherapy'
"Treat yourself to a session in Arcachon's thalassotherapy centre. There is a hydro massage pool, circular shower, algae wrap, mud wrap, hydro massage shower and access to the sauna, hammam and a sea water hot tub kept at a warm 32degC."

'The Dune du Pilat'
"This is the largest sand dune in Europe. It stands some 117m high and is about 3km long. There are steps up it which you approach through a short walk up through a number of beach cafés and souvenir shops. The view from the dune is well worth the climb and if you're feeling fit you can always run down the dune. Car parking is easy and there are toilet facilities."

Markets and Shopping

'La Teste Market'
"Open air and covered. The market is open everyday throughout July and August. And as with most French markets you can buy just about anything there from livestock to a new dining room table and chairs. Busiest days are Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. There are also a number of interesting African stalls to visit."
