'Cafe du Commerce'
"The friendliest bar in Monsegur. Sit out on the terrace and drink the local wine or enjoy English beer! A real selection of the more unusual beers can be found here. Both Pierre and Yannick the owners speak English so understand the importance of a good pint!"

'Les Colonnes Pizzeria'
"Tuesday night is jazz night in our local pizzeria. Live music and wonderful pizza. Monsegur is famous for its jazz festival and the Colonnes really knows its jazz."

Local Area and Activities

'Bordeaux'
"The beautiful city of Bordeaux is 1 hour away and with its glamorous shops and restaurants, beautiful grand theatre, churches and monuments it is well worth a whole day. The tram going all through the city is a great way to get about and it is very easy with a day ticket that let's you hop on or off all day. The River Garonne flows through Bordeaux and it is wonderful to walk along and watch the world go by. There is also a fantastic Sunday morning farmers market at the side of the Garonne or if you prefer antiques the area of St Michel holds an amazing outdoor flea market also on a Sunday morning."

'Canoeing Down the Dordogne '
"This doesn't have to be as energetic as it sounds. The canoes are for hire all along the Dordogne which is a wide slow river. Take a picnic and paddle over to an island for lunch and a game of rounders with the kids, then paddle on to the pick up point for the canoes. It is all down hill and you leave your car at the point where you drop off the canoe. They bus you up to the starting point and at the end of the day when you and the kids are tired there is the car/restaurant ready to greet you."

'Castillon la Bataille'
"They hold medieval pageants through out the summer. A reconstruction of the last battle between the English and French for the 100 years war is held with the most stunning fireworks display to round off the evening."

'Duras Castle'
"A wonderful day out in the beautiful medieval town of Duras which is only 10km away. The castle is restored and has fantastic exhibits, including the haunted room. This is interactive but my 4 year old really believed there was a ghost! So perhaps skip that room with little ones."

'Monsegur World Famous Jazz Festival'
"This world famous Jazz Festival is held every year in Monsegur. It is always the first weekend in July but for exact dates please contact me. I can also arrange reduced rate passes for the whole long weekend. There are concerts held all around the little town of Monsegur some free to everyone and some available to those with the paid for passes. It is a fantastic weekend, so put on your dancing shoes and get ready for some very late nights! "

Markets and Shopping

'St-Emilion'
"The most beautiful little town, world famous for its wine and bizarrely to us English its macaroons! The town sells both and tastings are available in all the shops. There are catacombs to explore from the local tourist office or just relax in the square with a drink and something to eat. There is also a little train to take you on a guided tour around the town from the castle. St-Emilion is only half an hour away and it really is one of those places that everyone instantly falls in love with."

'Summer Evening Market'
"Every Wednesday evening the local town of Monsegur (1.5km or easy staggering distance) holds its Summer Evening Market. The whole town joins in, eating the bbq'd steak or the roast pork. You can try organically reared snails in the most delicious regional sauce, buy locally produced wine to drink with your meal. This is all set in the listed market hall which is especially set out with long trestle tables for you to eat, drink and listen to the live music. It is a wonderful evening and all the market stalls are unusual and friendly. "
