THE LAKE

440 hectares of water, that can be enjoyed by all. Speedboats and jet skis are allowed, as well as canoes and sailing boats. There are 3 safe beaches ideal for swimming and for children to play on.

The lake itself is a masterpiece of engineering, and leads off to the Nantes-Brest Canal on both sides, and feeding a massive hydro system of electricity. Tourists are well catered for. There are man-made beaches such as Anse de Sordan, equipped with a childrens play area and very safe, as well as picnic areas. For the more adventurous, Beau Rivage offers a lively night life, beaches, watersports and other activities. There are good restaurants for families offering good value entertainment like pedalos, crazy golf etc. There are plenty of activities to keep the children out of mischief and safe. The whole lake area is surrounded by the Quenecan Forest, which is privately owned by the Count (locally known as Jaques). Even on a busy day the lake can hide the tourists, and remaining a natural area; there are still wild boar (not that you will see them). It is an area that can never be developed, and will never be spoilt. Although privately owned, the Count has allowed pathways to be cleared through the forest, making it a walkers paradise, where you can enjoy the peace and quiet. There are hundreds of walks, you can always find quiet paths and avoid other people.

THE COTTAGE

The Cottage is hidden away, off the main street of the village (it is a quiet village). It is up a dead end lane that only goes up to about 12 houses. It is easy to go past the cottage without seeing it! Once you go around to the front of the house, the garden and view open up. The cottage was built about 1900. It has a private south facing garden with views over the hamlet to the countryside beyond. There are 2 bedrooms, the main one has a double bed. The second has a triple sleeper, a double bed below and a single on top. There is a comfortable lounge with a granite fireplace and tiled floor. The kitchen is well equipped with cooker, fridge, microwave and washing machine. The property is in the heart of Brittany in the hamlet of Kergoff, close to the Village of Caurel. The cottage is only 500 metres from the Lac de Guerledan with its beaches, safe swimming and a wide variety of watersports, including water skiing. Bring your own speed boat! There is secure parking at the cottage and no parking or launching fees at the lake.

HOW TO GET TO THE CYCLE TRACK AND THE LAKE

To get to the cycle track you go up the lane for about 400m, then branch off up a path for about 100m. You reach the track, which goes for about 15km to Mur-de-Bretagne in one direction. It goes for 45km in the other direction, with one short break, to Carhaix.

To get to the lake, it is down the lane, turn right at the bottom follow the lane around. Turn left past 2 ponds and follow the lane to the lake, this is about 600m away.

The Nantes- Brest Canal is about 2 miles away (it runs into and out of the lake). The lake paths connect to it. The tow path is flat and suitable for walking and cycling. I believe that it is possible to go the whole way from Brest to Nantes on the tow path.
