The gite scheme was put in place by the French government to help re-generate the French rural economy. Nowadays, the term 'gite' is used perhaps less rigorously than it should be to mean a holiday property conversion located in the countryside.
The selection of gites advertised here is testimony to the owners' hard work in transforming rural buildings into accommodation for holidaymakers' enjoyment. The gite is perhaps the most traditional of French self catering accommodation and an ideal oppportunity to enjoy and appreciate the French way and pace of life.
