Nearest ferry port: St Malo 178km and about 2.5 hours from Piriac. Cherbourg is about 4.5 hours drive.
Nearest restaurant: Many traditional restaurants including creperies and seafood places in the village centre (1km from the house).
Location and activities: Our house, Ker Norven, is located in Port au Loup a small hamlet situated just on the outskirts of Piriac (1km). The village is still rather exclusive with many old stone houses. Port au Loup has 3 lovely beaches almost exclusively used by locals: Port Kennet (about 2 mins), Port au Loup (4 mins) and Port Ester. All 3 are popular with families and are sandy or sandy with rocky pools.

Piriac-sur-Mer is easily reachable on foot either via the coastal path (at low tide), by using the footpath or by jumping on the free small tram service which runs in the summer between Piriac and the coastal villages. Piriac is a relatively small but charming village situated at the tip of the Guérande peninsula, about 30 km NW of St Nazaire, at the mouth of the Loire river. The village of Piriac stretches over 12km and is home to only 1927 inhabitants during the winter. However, its sailing facilities, 9km of coast, European Blue Flag for the quality of its water and National Heritage status make it a popular spring to autumn seaside destination for many people. During this period, the village bursts with activity, open-air day and night markets, art and craft exhibitions and maritime festivals being some of the seasonal festivities on offer.

The area around Piriac is also rich in history and activities. Guérande, a medieval walled town, is only 15 mins away while La Turballe and Le Croisic, 2 other fishing villages with different traditions, are within less than 30 mins drive. La Baule, famous for its 8km of south-facing beaches with fine sand and its celebrity lifestyle with casinos, expensive hotels, luxury golf courses and private cliniques, offers a vibrant contrast to Piriac’s tranquillity.

Finally, and again within less than 30 mins drive from our villa is the Natural Park of Brière and the beautiful and peaceful salt marshes stretching over 2,000 hectares and where fine seasalt has been collected since 700 BC.

On the practical side, bakers, butchers, fishmongers, greengrocers, small supermarket, laundrette, emergency services (chemist, doctors, dentists, nurses, police, fire services) are all available in Piriac, which also offers a range of art & craft and clothes shops. Larger shopping centres are within easy reach (20-30 mins).

There is much much more that we could tell you about the area. This is a beautiful place and one where there is a large choice of activities. We can only give you a taste of what is available. The rest is up to you! Bay leaf, thyme and other herbs are also there for you to sample and use on your barbecue and daily cooking. The house has its own patio area with garden furniture and barbecue.
General: Our cottage is an end terraced house built in 1999 as part of a small holiday house development designed by a local architect. An extension was added in April 2007, giving us an extra bedroom and a separate lounge. The house is designed in the local style, with white walls, white shutters and slate roof. As a typical holiday house, Ker Norven layout is an open plan. Large french doors lead to the patio and garden. The house can easily accommodate 5/6 people.
The house is furnished throughout with pine furniture. The estate is served by a private road, ensuring that traffic is limited to a minimum for the comfort and safety of all.
