Burgundy is a wonderfully diverse region ideal for gentle exploration by bicycle. For nature lovers, the Canal du Nivernais is a most beautiful waterway and cyclists can appreciate unspoilt villages and pretty countryside from the towpath. The scenery along the Canal du Bourgogne is completely different. When you cycle here, you will find the scenery less wooded with more open fields, crops of dazzling yellow rape and wheatfields with poppies and cornflowers. En route, you have a couple of Burgundy's finest chateaux, Anc-le-Franc and Tanley, and the Abbeys of Fontenay and Semur-en-Auxois are nearby. Alternatively, cycle to Mailly-le-Chateau and head into the wine country of Bailly and Irancy in the Auxerre region.
