What to See and Do
Owners Recommendations
Eating Out
'Café de la Place-Callac'
"May we suggest this delightful restaurant, set in the main square. Especially recommended are the traditional English style fish and chips. All kinds of delights on the menu, traditional dishes, pizzas and of course the fish and chips, or just pop in for a coffee and watch the world go by!"
'Carhaix'
"Carhaix has many traditional restaurants it also has a pizzeria, a Chinese restaurant, and many small bars for snacks. "
'Les Fous Country Pub'
"Ten minutes or so from Kergonan and you will find this lovely country pub. Home made food with a childrens menu and vegetarian options. Real Ale.
Friendly surroundings and whilst there why not visit the animals too. "
'Pleyben'
"Want to travel a little further? We suggest you visit 'Blanche Hermine' in Pleyben. Enjoy a varied menu of traditional foods, local Bretagne beer, try a bottle of wine called 'Joy', it really is joy! Oh and the ice cream desserts are creations of absolute delight! "
Local Area and Activities
'Callac'
"A 10 minute drive from Kergonan is the town of Callac. There is a large fishing lake which is well stocked with rainbow trout, carp etc. Your Fishing Licence can be obtained from the local 'Olde Worlde' shop in Callac town, selling everything from soap to fishing equipment. In Callac there is a large statue of the Old Breton Horse. Take a trip on Wednesday mornings to the market held every week, buy the local produce to eat with your freshly caught rainbow trout. "
'Carhaix'
"In Carhaix you will find many activities to enjoy, just a few include, indoor swimming pool, golf, horse riding and cinema. The centre of Carhaix has many old buildings including a small chapel hidden away in the oldest part of town. July 14th, a must see parade of traditionally dressed Bretons and the music of the Bagadan. A fantastic chance to see and hear the traditions of Bretagne."
'Guingamp'
"A superb historical town to visit with wonderful architecture, including a Basilica. Many shops, some small and of course the larger supermarkets too. Restaurants, bistros and bars. In the very centre of Guingamp you will find a beautiful fountain - throw a coin in and make a wish!"
'Kergonan'
"From Kergonan beaches can be easily reached. Whichever direction you decide to travel there are small coves and larger beaches just waiting for you to discover.
The open countryside surrounding Kergonan is ever changing, wonderful sunrises and sunsets too. Have a bbq in the garden enjoy a glass of local wine and listen to the birdsong, gaze at the night sky, and see if you can hear the owl. "
'Locarn'
"The village of Locarn has a small shop, bar and restaurant. All of this is under one roof so if you want a loaf of bread, a coffee or a meal, just a few minutes drive from the cottage. The Landes of Locarn are renowned for their spectacular beauty and many walks. Just 10 minutes from the village is a small railway station - single track - here you can get the 'diddy train' to Guingamp, or in the opposite direction to Carhaix. Wait at the station and when the train comes along, just 'hail it' as you would a taxi!"
'Mael-Carhaix'
"Just a 10 minute drive and here you can visit the Jardin d'Eau; catch your supper, walk around the vast lake, dip your toes in the water, have a coffee. Why not take along a picnic and enjoy the peaceful surroundings of the lake. Mael-Carhaix is a typical village and has a chemist, bakery, bar, bank, and chocolatier. A small Depot-Vente is situated on the edge of the village. "
Markets and Shopping
'Carhaix Market'
"The weekly Saturday morning market selling local produce, including fresh fish, seafood, flowers and of course perfect for enjoying the sights, sounds and aromas of the traditional market. "
'Guingamp'
"Friday is market day in Guingamp. Many varities of traditional and local vendors. Why not stop for lunch in one of the many cafes and bistro's."
'Morlaix Market'
"This stunning town boasts a large Saturday market, winding through the streets you can peruse the stalls and visit the many shops on offer in Morlaix. "
'Rostrenen Tuesday Market'
"Another regular weekly market, take a leisurely stroll through the town whilst perusing the delights on offer. Including clothing, fresh vegetables, seafood, fish, the odd hen or two and maybe a goose! Why not enjoy a freshly made crepe whilst strolling amongst the many and varied stalls. "
