Local Area and Activities

'Chateaux'
"La Roche, Rosanbo, Tonquedec or Kergrist are in plentiful supply."

'Church Architecture '
"Runan, Kermarie, Tréguier, Lannion, St-Jean-du-Doigt"

'Most Character and Best-preserved Old Quarters - Tréguier (15 mins) Paimpol (20 mins)'
"Tréguier's cathedral, built of pink granite, is the most impressive building. Its piecemeal construction in a variety of styles over several centuries has achieved a pleasing harmony. Most of it is Gothic, though one of its 3 towers, over the transept, is Romansque. The great spire at its west end is a masterpiece of the Decorated period, fretted into multi-patterned holes, to reduce wind resistance."

'Paimpol (20 Minutes from Kermarie)'
"Paimpol is sheltered in a deep cove at the end of the bay of St Brieuc. Paimpol is an attractive, bustling port packed with pleasure craft and chandlery. The surrounding buildings are shuttered and dormered. There are more delightful old houses scattered throughout the cobbled town, especially around the Place du Martray, where a daily market displays fresh local produce."

'Perros-Guirec - Pink Granite Coast (20 Minutes from Kermarie) '
"Perros-Guirec the largest resort on the Pink Granite Coast. Well equipped, and spacious enough to disperse the summer crowds, it attracts older visitors as well. Two superb beaches lie to the north-west; southwards, a serpentine corniche road meanders past a gritty foreshore to the busy marina. On this side of town a small waxwork museum chronicles a century of turbulent local history. While a casino, congress centre and thalassotherapy centre occupy the attractive seafront at Trestraou beach."

'Plouec du Trieux 2.5km from Kermarie'
"La Poste (Post Office), restaurant, boulangerie/pâtisserie (bakery/cake shop), tabac/bar (bar and newsagent), la gare (train station), L'école primaire (primary school), Mairie, petrol station "

'Pontrieux - Petite Cité de Caractère (5 Minutes from Kermarie)'
"Pontrieux commands the original bridging point over the Trieux river, and is a pleasant old port of lovely wood and stone buildings. It boasts many interesting art and craft shops. It is also where you will find your nearest - Intermarché supermarket/petrol station, La Poste (Post Office), boucherie (butchers), 2 boulangeries/pâtisseries (bakery/cake shops), 2 pharmacies (chemists), 2 banks, Tourist Information Office, 6 restaurants, tabac/bars, art and craft shops, shoes/clothes shops, wine shop, several hairdressers, florist, estate agents, Mairie, art/sculpture galleries, la gare (train station), port "

'St-Quay-Portrieux (25 Minutes from Kermarie)'
"As was the case with several of the ports along this coast, St Quay once dispatched its men folk to fish for cod. Today it has replaced its cod fishing revenue with scallops, mackerel and plaice caught more locally. Most importantly nowadays, however is tourism. Its leisure activities, are admirable with a casino, disco, bars and cafes. St Quay has 5 good beaches, with Mickey Clubs (supervised entertainment for young children) and lifeguards, while an outdoor swimming pool provides calmer waters. Sea-angling trips and cruises to the Ile de Brehat are available, while the Chemin de Ronde footpath is also popular"

'The Ile de Brehat'
"Now Brehat's permanent population of about 400 is annually swollen to about 10 times that number in summer, when its 3 hotels are often fully booked. The ferry terminal is at Pointe de l'Arcouest. Les Vedettes de Brehat shuttle back and forth on 10 minute hops, hourly in summer "
