Owners Recommendations
'City of Carcassonne'
"The magnificent city of Carcassonne has to be seen to be believed. It has been on UNESCO's World Heritage List since 1997.
Cathar Castles are within a short drive and the views are absolutely stunning.
We are surrounded by vineyards, all of which offer free tastings and some also offer guided tours of the caves. The town of Limoux nearby is famous for its sparkling wine, which was produced even before champagne and we think tastes better.
Narbonne and Perpignan are worth a day trip, having good sandy beaches and some lovely fishing ports nearby. There is an African Animal Reserve and a Dinosaur Park nearby also.
If you come in the winter the ski slopes of the Pyrénées Orientales are not too far away.
In Carcassonne there is also a Bird Park.
On the Canal du Midi which passes through Carcassonne and stretches along to Toulouse in one direction and the Mediterranean coast in the other, boat trips are available and the scenery is wonderful."
'Local Markets'
"Limoux has a market every Friday with a wonderful array of local produce and fruit and vegetables. There is a huge market in Mirepoix every Monday which has just about everything you would expect from a French market. However, in the surrounding towns and villages, you will find a market on every day of the week! They all offer a huge range of fresh local produce, including cheeses and meats.
Limoux is the nearest town for supermarkets and banks, shops and restaurants."
