About the Property

Restored town house in the wine growing village of Magalas, Hérault, Languedoc Roussillon.

THE OLD PHARMACY:

Fully restored in 2005 to the highest standard, the house has been finished and equipped as our family holiday home and reflects everything that we would want to have in a French rental, but never seemed to get ! Its high ceilings and pristine white walls make it bright and spacious, with all the small conveniences and touches that make it a true home-from-home !

The entrance hall and stairs are decorated with traditional frescoes painted by a local artist. A flight of stairs leads to the first floor with living-dining room, kitchen, shower room wc, and one double bedroom.

Another flight of stairs leads up to the second floor where there is the master double bedroom and sitting room with terrace, bathroom, separate wc and 2 twin bedrooms.

The lounge is equipped with a large comfy sofa and one armchair (dining chairs can be easily be used as extra seating). The dining table seats 6 people easily (plus there are extensions to the table and extra seating is available).

The modern kitchen is well equipped with all appliances and leads out onto the spacious outdoor terrace where there is a large table seating 8 people.

The tv receives all English channels, and there is a large collection of dvd’s.

On-street parking is just outside, or just round the corner in the town square.

Central heating is available for winter lets (at an extra charge).

Further details indoors:
A typical French town house with high ceilings and original tiled floors. Newly renovated, bright and spacious, with a modern fitted kitchen and all appliances. High quality furniture and fittings.

Central heating is available.

Further details outdoors:
Large terrace with table and seating for 8 people. On-street parking close by.

Property Type: Town Houses
Houses
Nearest restaurant: 100 yards away, the Excalibur bistro serves typical local French meals.
200 yards away 'Le Bontemps' is an incredibly popular gourmet restaurant with a fast growing reputation (so much so that booking is nearly always essential!)
Location and activities: Magalas is wonderfully positioned in an enviable location; situated on the plain, with the unspoilt beauty and dramatic mountains of the Languedoc Nature Park to the north and the Mediterranean beaches to the south. Both are within easy driving distance.
Magalas is a typical village dating back to medieval times, and is laid out in the circular pattern so typical of the Languedoc.
It is a thriving wine-growing village with its own 'cave cooperative' where local vineyards send their grapes for making into superb wines. There is a market in the town square every Wednesday, where we can highly recommend that you sample the wares of the roast chicken vendor. Outdoor performances and live music take place in the square on many weekends during the summer.
Our village has 3 restaurants, 2 cafes, a small supermarket in its centre and a large one on the outskirts, plus 2 doctors (one who speaks some English), dentist, hairdressers, pharmacy, 3 bakers, Post Office, bank with cash machine, and a tabac (newsagent, which sells ‘todays’ English papers in summer). Magalas also has an excellent school and college, a couple of hairdressers, a florist, an electrical appliance shop and 2 garages. The train station which connects to the TGV network to Paris and beyond. There is a bus route to Béziers (though we have never tried it), and 2 minutes away on the edge of the village there is a large supermarket, and petrol station.
The wonderful medieval church, and its internationally renowned acoustics plays host to many classical concerts.
The River Orb provides wonderful swimming only 10 minutes away, as well as canoeing at nearby picturesque Roquebrun.
At the height of the summer is the 'Toro Piscine', staged in the village square, where the local men and boys entice a not too fearsome bull to chase them around a temporary swimming pool, strange but true!
Just 100 yards from the house is the Excalibur bistro, where typical French food combines with a very genuine local atmosphere. Of special note is ‘Le Bontemps’ restaurant in the church square, which has become hugely popular in recent times for its superb cuisine and excellent wines.
Our favourite restaurant, though, is ‘Emilie’ in the centre of Cessenon, about 20 minutes away. Brits Maggie and Elmar will give you a wonderful welcome when you mention our name!
Bedrooms: Four bedrooms; 2 doubles (one en suite) and 2 twins
