Owners Recommendations
Eating Out
'Cahors'
"A good choice of restaurants and at lunchtime you can find a 12 Euro menu which includes wine and coffee. Try the Mephisto, our favourite."
'Marcilhac-sur-Cele'
"The Cafe des Touristes may sound a bit naff, but if you want to sample excellent home country cooking this is the place to go. It might be a little more expensive but the portions are generous, work up an appetite before you go."
'St-Cirq-Lapopie'
"A great place to eat out as there is a large choice of restaurants in season, plenty of them having terraces with breathtaking views. "
Local Area and Activities
'Bonaguil Castle'
"This is one of the last old style castles before the chateau became popular. Explore the underground tunnels and dungeons, great for the kids."
'Cahors'
"The main town of the department famous for its fortified medieval bridge, the Pont Valentre, and not far away the Cahors vineyards."
'Gouffre de Padirac'
"An amazing cavern, accessed from a huge hole in the ground. Travel by boat on the underground river and marvel at the stalactites and stalagmites."
'Grottes du Pech Merle'
"Wonderful cave system which is renowned for some of the best pre-historic cave paintings. It also has the largest colony of long eared bats in Europe"
'Outdoor Activities'
"Try canoeing on the picturesque Cele river and see the dragonflies and kingfishers. There is also rock climbing, mountain biking and walking. If you like nature there are plenty of birds to be seen and the wild flowers and butterflies are amazing. "
'Rocamadour'
"The second most visited site outside of Paris after Mont St Michel, this amazing town is built into the steep limestone cliffs. Visit the cathedral which has a black Madonna, visit the ramparts of the chateau and in September go and see the hot air balloon festival."
'St-Cirq-Lapopie'
"Picturesque village with quaint winding streets perched on the cliffs above the River Lot. It is one of the most beautiful villages in France with craft shops and plenty of restaurants."
Markets and Shopping
'Limogne Market'
"This quaint local Sunday market has a great ambiance. It's not too big but bustling with life, and they also have a brocante market from time to time. "
'Villefranche Market'
