'La Marienée'
"This is a gem of a restaurant located at the neighbouring beach of Le Bouil in Longeville-sur-Mer. It has an Indonesian theme (and also pizzas for the kids) and I can recommend the mahi-mahi and also for a starter the beignets de thon. The house punch is also worth a try! It has English-speaking staff and the couple who own and run the place make everyone feel very welcome indeed. It also has lots of interesting Indonesian artefacts for sale - so if you see something you like while you are eating, you can probably buy it! You'll probably see us as we eat here regularly. Local Area and Activities

'Indian Forest'
"Situated on the outskirts of the neighbouring town of Le Bernard is an amusement park with a difference. Although there is a variety of activities (www.indian-forest-atlantique.com) the area that keeps my “kids” going back year after year are the tree trails where you climb, swing, slide and manoeuvre through the treetops on a series of trails, from the fairly gentle/easy ones for beginners to the "black runs" for the over 16s, which will test your nerve to the limit. Safety harness and full instruction is given before you start and there are staff around all the time to help out, if needed. During peak periods you do need to book as the numbers are limited but do try to fit this in to your stay or at least take a look at the website. Note: You will need secure footwear to go on the trails – trainers or hiking shoes are best, so if you think you may want to try this out remember to bring them with you!"

'Inside Surf School'
"Located at the southern end of the beach in Les Conches is the Inside Surf School. They speak English and run a variety of surfing and body-boarding courses. Wetsuits and equipment provided. For reservations or more information call (00 33) 6 79 48 03 88. "

'La Route des Vins'
"The Wine Route starts in Mareuil-sur-Lay and leads into some of the neighbouring villages where many of the local vineyards open their doors to allow wine-tastings. A full list can be obtained from the Tourist Office located in the centre of Mareuil-sur-Lay but some of our favourites are in the village of Rosnay. Chateau de-Rosnay, Domaine de-la-Vieille Riboulerie and Domaine des-Dames all sell excellent local wines at very reasonable prices and it is a good day out, although I recommend agreeing beforehand who will drive, as after you finish the Route des Vins you will be well "over the limit"!"

'Longeville-Sur-Mer Forest'
"Le Rocher is situated in 650 hectares of pine and oak forest. An excellent choice of circuits are marked out for walkers, horse riders and cyclists. The Tourist Office can provide more details and maps.. and it is all free! There is even a circuit (parcours de santé) with timber-built exercise stations along the route, if you are missing the gym."

'Vague de Jazz'
"Every August in Longeville-sur-Mer there is a Jazz Festival. It runs over a 1-2 week period, with jazz performances at a variety of locations around the town. Full details of these events can be found at the Tourist Office."

'Zoo - Sables d'Olonne'
"Located about 20km from Le Rocher is Les Sables d'Olonne. The zoo is in a lovely wooded location and is not so big as to wear you out walking around. I'd suggest going in the morning in the summer. www.zoo-des-sables.com "
