Languedoc Rousillon has 150 miles of coastline for sea fishing both from the shore and by boat. Visit the Carmargue where the River Rhone meets the Mediterranean Sea. Here the salt water lagoons (etangs) can be fished for sea bass, bream and sole and shellfish like oysters and mussels are found. Rivers like the Orb have good fishing and lakes, for example Lac de la Cavayere, provide trout, chub, carp, pike, perch, roach, eel and other fish. Fishing permits needed, available in tabacs, Post Offices and tackle shops. Extra permission needed for trout and salmon fishing on class 1 protected waters.
