The fast flowing rivers of the Rhone Alps and the region's lakes and streams provide 5,000km of water for fishing enthusiasts. The area is good for angling and fly fishing. Species found include char, trout, pike, carp, perch and zander. The best fishing streams of the River Rhone are to be found after its exit from Lake Geneva. Some of the Rhone's backwaters contain predatory northern pike, pike-perch, perch and largemouth bass. Lake Montrionde is the area's third largest lake after Geneva and Annecy and holds many species including trout. Lake fishing begins on 1 April. Permits can be obtained from tabacs, tackle shops and Post Offices.
