Reviews
This holiday had all the right ingredients for success, and it was!! The gite is clean, well equipped, in a lovely setting and a pool kept absolutely spotlessly clean by John and Penny. We came to cycle and were not disappointed.
We visited Riberac, Nontron and Brantome but liked Brantome most of all.
It was a perfect holiday for us.
Eric and Pat Woods, Wye Valley, July 2008
Thank you so much Penny and John for the very warm welcome to a very special place. It is simply stunning here. The gite is very comfortable and finished with accuracy and dedication. With 3 young children we didn't eat out much in the evenings but thoroughly enjoyed the pool and magnificent gardens and local walks.
Can highly recommend Aubeterre (absolutely beautiful) and a visit to Eglise Souterraine Saint-Jean is a must. Also make time for Brantome, a walk in Vieux Mareuil and Mareuil-sur-Belle.
All in all a wonderful holiday - very relaxing, wonderful weather, lovely gite and stunning surroundings.

Facilities
| Property Type: | Gites |
|---|---|
| Nearest restaurant: | Le Restaurant D' Application, Vieux Mareuil, 3 miles from the gite, has a good menu choice at reasonable prices but is not the only restaurant within easy reach. |
| Location and activities: | The gite is within easy reach of many interesting locations. Brantôme is delightful at any time of the year. Périgueux, has many interesting shops, an old quarter and Roman remains with a spectacular museum. The river trip on the Dordogne at Bergerac is well worth visiting as are the monolithic church at Aubeterre, the pre-historic caves at Lascaux, the château at Bourdeilles, the town of Sarlat and the Cognac producers in the Charente. The Friday market at Ribérac is one of the largest in the Dordogne and the Friday market in Brantome is colourful and picturesquely set on the bridges in front of the beautiful Abbey. The park opposite the Abbey is an ideal spot to sit, enjoy the view and eat some of the delicious local produce you have been tempted to buy. |
| Bedrooms: | There is a large double bedroom downstairs and 1 single bedroom, 1 twin bedded bedroom and a double bedroom upstairs. All are spacious rooms and the beds are made up ready for your stay. |
| Bathrooms: | Downstairs there is a shower room with wc and wash hand basin as well as a walk-in shower, hairdryer. This shower room is conveniently situated near the front door. Upstairs the bathroom has a bath, wc and wash hand basin. In both rooms you will find liquid soap, clean towels and toilet rolls. |
| Kitchen: | The spacious, well equipped kitchen contains a built-in electric oven; a 4 ring gas hob; a dishwasher and washing machine; a large fridge-freezer; a microwave oven; a toaster and electric kettle; an iron, ironing board and airing rack. The music centre and sofa also in the kitchen area, are ideal for relaxing while the food is cooking! |
| Dining: | There is a large dining table making the spacious kitchen /dining area a very sociable place while the meal is being prepared. There literally is space for everyone! |
| Living area: | There is a lounge with tv downstairs and a large mezzanine area with a sofa upstairs. You will find books and games available in the gite and the mezzanine is an ideal place to enjoy them. |
| Entertainment on-site: | The gite has satellite tv connecting to the major British channels, a video player and hi-fi system |
| Outside: | The spacious paved patio at the front of the gite faces south and has patio furniture and a bbq, perfect for al fresco dining and relaxing. There is a paved path leading from the parking area directly to the gite. The large, west facing terrace is covered and provides a shady spot to eat or sit and read or just enjoy watching the sun go down with a glass of wine in hand. |
| General: | The hamlet of Leycoussey is set away from a main road, has hardly any passing traffic except the postman and is very tranquil. It is an ideal place for young children to play safely (but of course with adult supervision always at hand). |
| Suitability: | With the double bedroom and shower room downstairs and only very shallow steps the gite is suitable for people with restricted mobility or in a wheelchair. We can provide a ramp if needed. As well as being ideal for family groups with young children the accommodation lends itself to groups of adult friends who enjoy holidaying together. There are activities within easy reach to suit both young and old though many of our guests like the gite and garden plus pool so much they only venture out of Leycoussey to top up with food supplies! |
