The house is situated south of Arcachon, in the beautiful Landes forest, 12 mins from sea and 300m from a lake with sandy shores. It has been architecturally designed to a high French standard in a typically French style with tiled floors on the ground floor and with carpets upstairs. The house is simply furnished in natural pine to complement the exposed pine beam ceilings. As the house was furnished for our own use practically all the furniture and fittings were new for the completion and have been carefully looked after by our guests ever since.
The lake has numerous sandy beaches with ample shady parking. During the summer months, it has an average temperature of 20ºC plus. The shallow perimeter is a very safe place for small children. The long sandy Atlantic beaches bordered by the pine forests provide world-class surfing.
This is a French holiday area famous for wines and seafood and is largely undiscovered by the British. Walk or cycle along special tracks in the forest to lakes or sea. Horse riding, sailing, windsurfing, kite surfing, fishing, golf and many more sports are available locally.
Local village markets, good restaurants, classic vineyards, historic Bordeaux and Bastide towns are all within easy reach. Not far south are the Pyrénées and Spain.
The house has an open plan lounge/dining area and fully equipped kitchen. Enclosed private garden with patio furniture and barbecue.
Wonderful for early or late holidays as well as high season

What to See and Do
Owners Recommendations
Eating Out
' Dining Locally'
"There is a wide choice of good restaurants in the local area to suit all tastes and pockets. The food at lunchtime is always good value for money and the best places can be spotted by the number of local white vans (local artisans eating out) parked outside. There is a book in the house with restaurants listed. Jerome at Sucre Sal in Biscarrosse bakes excellent bread and makes amazing French dishes and quiches to take home.
"
'Our Favourite Restaurant'
"Chez Flo in nearby Parentis serves excellent French cuisine. The food is beautifully presented and the atmosphere very friendly. An English translation of the menu is available should you need some help. It is very popular with the locals especially after the Thursday morning market.
"
Local Area and Activities
'Bordeaux Unesco World Heritage Site'
"45 mins by car takes you to Bordeaux, now a UNESCO World Heritage site. An 18th century architectural gem this city is wonderful for shopping or for viewing some of its 350 historic monuments. Do not miss the latest spectacular development - the extensive gardens laid out along the quay incorporating a mirror lake at the Place-de-la-Bourse which although only 2 inches deep not only gives you a chance to cool your feet but gives the impression of walking on water.
"
'Cycling, Riding or Walking'
"Ride or walk through the forest to the lakes or the sea. On bikes use the special tracks through the forest which are suitable for children, casual cyclists or those for whom it is a challenging hobby. Take you own bikes or hire them locally . "
'Fishing'
"Practise a whole range of fishing techniques, such as coarse fishing, spinning or fly fishing in the three local lakes and in the canals that join them together. At the sea ( 15 mins away) try Surf fishing from the beach at Biscarrosse Plage. Here you can fish for seabream, seabass, or even sole if you are lucky"
'Medieval Bastide Villages'
"St Emilion is famous for its medieval catacombs and underground church as well as its wines. Climb the Kings Tower for breathtaking views of the town and the vineyards. There are plenty of restaurants to eat in, gift shops to browse around and of course the trip through the vineyards on the little train.
Lunch in the picturesque towns of St Julien and Labastide d’Armagnac can be combined with a visit to the vineyards producing delicious Armagnac and related liqueurs
