Chambre d'Hôte

Kergudon has been a place of peace and serenity since a presbytery was established here in the 17th century - the property dates from 1640 and is the oldest in the local area. One of the presbytery stables has been converted to provide luxury B&B accommodation, The Nook. The building stands apart from the main house with its own parking and garden - this provides very private accommodation and breakfast is brought to you on a tray!

Owners Recommendations

Eating Out

'Camaret-sur-Mer'
"Camaret-sur-Mer is just over an hour from us and home to many restaurants clustered around the picturesque harbour. Not surprisingly, many specialise in locally caught fish and seafood – this is the place for Brittanys classic “fruits de mer,” a traditional combination of fish and shellfish from local waters. "

'L'Oree des Monts'
"Located in central Sizun, just 5km from Kergudon, is this great little restaurant and bar. Situated in the town square adjacent to the Mairie, the restaurant serves a great range of meats, pizzas and pasta dishes."

'Lac du Drennec Creperie'
"Situated overlooking the beautiful Lake Drennec, this friendly creperie is just over a mile from us. You are guaranteed a friendly welcome and a wide range of savoury and sweet crepes, salads and one of the best omelettes you will ever taste!"

Local Area and Activities

'Concarneau'
"One of our favourite places, especially on a Friday morning when there is a good market with superb food stalls. The town is one of the most photographed in Brittany and popular with visitors all year round. A highlight is a visit to the stunning Ville Close; a small, well fortified old city located a few metres off shore and reached by a drawbridge. "

'Cycling in Finistere'
"Use our modern mountain bikes to explore the many wonderful places that Western Brittany has to offer. Detailed cycle routes are available with easy to follow instructions and maps. With advance warning, we can even take you and your bikes to somewhere nearby and give you a route back, ensuring of course that a café or bar features en route! The Nantes-Brest Canal is to the south of us and offers miles and miles of flat lovely countryside."

'Fishing'
"Finistere is one of the best places in Brittany to fish – our nearby Lac du Drennec has trout fishing and the Nantes–Brest Canal is just 20 minutes to the south of us. A similar distance from here is the River Aulne with bream and coarse fishing – Chateaulin is well known for salmon fishing. We can help organise where/how to buy any necessary licences/permits. Lots of sea fishing nearby also."

'Horse Riding'
"Finistere offers fabulous riding country and the Monts d’Arree around us has some of the best in Brittany. There are riding schools in our local area – our nearest explores fabulous trekking routes through Cranou Forest. We have the contact details of our local equestrian centres and as riders and French speakers are more than happy to help arrange whatever you need. "

'Huelgoat'
"Just 20 minutes from us is the granite boulder strewn Huelgoat Forest. Situated next to a beautiful lake and right on the edge of the town allowing lovely walking but with easy access to bars and restaurants. Best in early autumn when all the leaves change but a delight all year round. "

'Lac du Drennec'
"This lovely lake lies in the heart of the Armorique National Park and is reached on foot from us by a 20 minute walk. The lake is perfect for family walks with a 5 mile circular walk around it and a creperie open in the summer to relax or take a spot of lunch. The lake has 2 sandy beaches that are ideal for picnics and family bathing – rarely busy even in the height of summer. "

'Leisure Centres'
"Landerneau (20 mins from Kergudon) has a great indoor/outdoor pool complex with large swimming pool, long flume, diving pool as well as water jets and Jacuzzis. Ideal for all ages. Sizun itself has an outdoor pool in the summer and there is safe bathing at Lake Drennec also. Ten minutes away is La Gallopette, a paid for visitor attraction with lots of childrens activities including bouncy castles, trampolines and a toboggan run. "

'Local Kayaking'
"For an enjoyable day messing about on the water, use our kayaks on the nearby Lac du Drennec. We have paddles and life jackets and the kids will absolutely love it! Many other establishments make a charge for this – at Kergudon House Cottages, it’s free for our guests! The nearby Nantes–Brest Canal also has several places to hire canoes and kayaks."

'Locronan'
"Locronan is a prime example of a Breton town that has remained frozen in time. During the 15th to 17th centuries, it was a successful centre for woven linen, supplying sails to the French, English and Spanish navies. The rich medieval houses of the town centre have never been superceded or surrounded by modern development. The town itself is genuinely remarkable, centred around an interesting little church. "

'Oceanopolis, Brest'
"Situated at Brest, just 45 mins away, is one of the biggest and best aquariums you will ever visit - an absolute must see with sharks, seals and penguins. A good 4 or 5 hour visit and suitable for all age ranges. "

'Pont-Aven'
"This is where Paul Gauguin came to paint in the late 19th century and is now home to many galleries and shops, drawing visitors throughout the year. It is a great place to while away an afternoon – there are lovely walks alongside the river as well as many nice places to eat and drink."

'Quimper'
"A beautiful medieval city full of narrow cobbled streets and half-timbered houses - the cathedral is a great starting point and has some of the best stained glass windows we have ever seen. Lovely in summer when the town puts all the flowers on the footbridges across the River Odet; Quimper is a great place to sit, take a coffee and watch the world go by. "

'Trevarez Gardens'
"Trevarez is home to wonderful gardens and a must visit when staying in the region. There are displays of flowers and shrubs virtually all year round and it is a great place for a picnic on a sunny summer’s day. The gardens are situated near to the beautiful town of Châteauneuf du Faou which is on the banks of the Nantes-Brest Canal; a tranquil and scenic walk. "

'Walking'
"Kergudon is surrounded by excellent walking opportunities. Hills, forests, lakes and canals are all easily reachable from the gites. A wide selection of routes are available with easy to follow instructions and maps. We will use our knowledge of the area to help you find whatever you are looking for and can provide maps/walks books."

Markets and Shopping

'Morlaix Market'
"Markets are held on Saturday mornings in this attractive town which is about 40 mins from Kergudon. Always plenty of food stalls, the sights and smells always tempting! "
