What to See and Do
Owners Recommendations
Eating Out
'Port le Pouldu'
"The Hotel Port Le Pouldu is well worth a visit for both a drink on the quayside and we have always found the food excellent."
Local Area and Activities
'Benodet'
"Both port and beach well worth a vist, very popular."
'Carnac and Quiberon'
"Carnac is a popular place about 1 hour by car, lots of shops, restaurants and good beaches. Also here are the megaliths (ancient standing stones), which are a great tourist attraction. It is also worth visiting Quiberon while here as it is close by and very scenic.
"
'Concarneau'
"A large colourful port with many fish restaurants, shops etc. The fortress in the harbour is full of pretty gift shops and restaurants. Be sure to drive around the headland as there are plenty of beaches here.
"
'Pont-Aven'
"Gaugin lived here, a Mecca for artists, many galleries, shops, cafés and riverside restaurants. A walk along the river behind the main street is a must. Guys, check out the quaint gents loos on the bridge!
"
'Port-Belon'
"A pretty little fishing port. Here you can buy fresh fish as it comes off the boat. A chalkboard at the end of the road displays days and times they come in. There are 2 bars here. One is also a créperie and is of course an excellent fish restaurant. Looking across the estuary you can also see another wonderful restaurant, again its speciality is fish, but we had great omelettes here! Chez Jacky, at Riec sur Belon.
"
Markets and Shopping
'Moelan'
"You will have driven through here to reach Kerambellec as this is the nearest small town. It has a few shops, a couple of banks, bars and a Post Office most of which surround the lovely church, not forgetting the mairie (the mayor), very important person in France, (located next to the Post Office).
The supermarket, Intermarché,(on the road out towards Quimperlé, turn off left opposite Lidl), is excellent for all your groceries (especially the prawns and anchovies) and wine of course! It doesn’t close for lunch either!
A market is held here on a Tuesday morning, selling fresh local produce, again surrounding the church.
There is also a cinema here, if you are fluent in French of course.
"
'Quimperlé'
"This is quite a large town, with a river running through. The main shopping area is up on a hill reached either by car or if you park by the river, up the steps from the main road. We have had some lovely meals (steaks, warm salads etc) in the créperie over the bridge, just past the car park on the right. The market here is on a Friday morning. There is also an excellent fish market here.
