Longere, 16 Place de la Mairie   Self Catering 2 4 Thu 1 Check availability

Beautiful woodland setting overlooking canal, park and lake on the edge of a traditional small Breton town.

Ancient longère with architect modernised interior and terraced garden overlooking lake and park and descending to the Nantes-Brest Canal. Swimming, boating, cycling, riding and walking available locally.  Direct access from the garden to more than 50km of towpath for quiet and safe walking or cycling.

The town, 100m along the towpath, offers shopping, banks, bars and good places to eat so a real opportunity to abandon the car and totally relax.  Rohan also has a theatre with various local and international entertainments and a Sunday market in the recently restored market hall.  Alternatively, Rohan is ideally situated to explore Brittany with all areas within 'day trip' distance.

Comfortable, centrally heated (in winter) accommodation with twin and double bedrooms. Tv/video with British programmes. Wood burning stove. Bbq in the garden. Because of steps, pond and direct access on to the canal towpath the property is not suitable for people with mobility problems and younger children will need supervision.

Owners Recommendations

Eating Out

'Creperie, Plas-de-la-Mairie'
"50m from Longere garden gate, really good traditional galettes and crepes, salads and grills. Children welcome. Best to book in summer to avoid disappointment."

'Hotel Rohan'
"Locally recommended for really good menu d' Jour at lunchtime and evening meals. Eat in dining room or on the square, meet local people and enjoy periodic music events. Free internet access available."

Local Area and Activities

'Art in the Chapels'
"An annual Morbihan event centered on Pontivy. Four routes visiting (usually closed) chapels where local artists are invited to exhibit. A guide, available from Tourist Information points is essential and entry is free although a donation to the chapel upkeep is much appreciated."

'Festival Interceltique, Lorient'
"Lorient Inter-Celtique Festival from 3rd - 12th August 2012. Less that 1 hour drive from the Longere many traditional music & dance events. www.festival-interceltique.com for more information."

"Event in the park in Rohan on the evening of 13th July. Guingette (Moule au Frite supper, table for the evening and live French cafe style music) commencing 8pm. Canoe/kayak illuminated display on lake c. 10.30pm and fireworks c. 11pm. Bar plus music at other end of park and Guingette will continue late into the night. Other celebrations locally the following day."

"Look in (and add to) the Longere experience book for a wealth of information from other guests. Information on almose everything, good and bad. Also look at and add to the items on the notice board and under the tv."

'Nantes/Brest Canal/Rohan park and lake'
"The Longere garden opens onto the Nantes-Brest Canal that offers many kilometres of safe walking and cycling. Cycles can be hired in Pontivy. Also fishing in the canal and lake. Really good childrens play area next to Longere, something for all ages from under 2's to plus 16's. "

'Rohan Bulletin/Ouest France - Pontivy Edition'
"To be fully informed of local events, visit the information point (June to September) opposite the market hall or pick up a free copy of the Rohan Bulletin from the Mairie or bolangerie, buy the Saturday edition of Ouest France, Pontivy edition and look in shops and supermarkets. "

Markets and Shopping

'Hennibont Market'
"Probably the largest street market in Brittany and around 45 minutes drive from the Longere. Market each Thursday morning with more around 200 stalls selling everything from handbags to oysters. Go with deep pockets, empty bags and buy a delicious take away lunch from one of the many food stalls."

'Pontivy'
"Monday all day market in car park between main street and river. Lots of stalls and really good clothes offers."

'Rohan Markets'
"A market is held on Sunday mornings in the Halle-au-Grain. There are sometimes fresh fish, vegetables, poultry, cheese, sausage, honey and always very good cooked chickens and pork, craft, wine and other visiting stalls occasionally visit. "
