Mareuil-sur-Lay is a charming town in the middle of the local wine-growing district north west of Luçon, where you can visit the vineyards and taste the wine. Further afield the Marais Poitevin (otherwise known as the Green Venice/La Venise Verte) in Coulon (west of Niort) and the port and town of La Rochelle. The Puy-du-Fou between Les Herbiers and Les Epesses (north-east of La Roche-sur-Yon) has been described as the Oberammergau of France! The evening 'spectacle' is more than any ordinary son et-lumière. With 2,000 participants and 12,000 spectators it is a unique experience. |
