Les Sables d'Olonne has style and knows how to please its visitors in all respects throughout the year, not least on account of the weather, which, thanks to the tail ends of the warm Gulf Stream, is similar to that of the Mediterranean. Mareuil-sur-Lay is a charming town in the middle of the local wine-growing district north west of Luçon, where you can visit the vineyards and taste the wine. Further afield the Marais Poitevin (otherwise known as the Green Venice/La Venise Verte) in Coulon (west of Niort) and the port and town of La Rochelle. The Puy-du-Fou between Les Herbiers and Les Epesses (north-east of La Roche-sur-Yon) has been described as the Oberammergau of France! The evening 'spectacle' is more than any ordinary son et-lumière. With 2,000 participants and 12,000 spectators it is a unique experience. |
