Wide range of activities for the whole family with mini-golf, sailing, wind and kite surfing, wakeboarding, fishing, golf and bird-watching all close by. Riding 15 mins drive. Try out the fresh produce market held weekly in the summer or investigate the brocante market. Visit the Merville Battery or Pegasus Bridge museum (10 mins drive) or venture further afield to the D-Day Beaches (Arromanches 30 mins, Omaha Beach and American Cemetery 45 mins). Buy authentic Camembert in the beautiful village of Beuvron en Auge or visit the historic town of Bayeux (30 mins) and its famous tapestry. The medieval port of Honfleur is worth a visit (1h 10 mins) or mix with the rich and famous in the stylish town of Deauville (35 mins).

"The chef here trained at the Ritz in London so you can be sure of a first class meal here! He's happy to chat and his good English makes ordering easy. Menus provided to the women have no prices so watch out chaps! A great place for a special occasion. "

"During the night of 5/6 June 1944, paratroopers landed here to neutralise the guns which were aimed at Sword Beach to clear the way for the D-day landings. Visit the casements and experience the noise of the assault!"

'Bayeux and Bayeux Tapestry'
"Recall the story of the Battle of Hastings and learn about William the Conqueror in the museum which houses the tapestry. Even our kids who are not history buffs were fascinated by the story told by the audio guides - there are different guides for children and adults. Wander the quiet mediaeval streets afterwards and find a quiet spot for lunch."

'Bird-watching, Sallenelles'
"Visit La Maison de la Nature to find out about local flora and fauna and to access the hides along the estuary. For serious bird-watchers we can arrange a visit to a special hide (overnight stays possible) deep in the marshes. "

"Deauville was a mecca in the 1930's for the rich and famous. It still is and you can shop in Gucci, Dior and Hermes. Take a coffee and watch how the rich and famous live or walk the famous boardwalk along the top of the beach. For a great evening out why not try the Casino?"

"There is an 18-hole golf course 10 minutes away in Le Home Varaville. A newer course is available in Cabourg (15 mins). Further afield the course at Omaha Beach has magnificent views."

'Horse Racing'
"The Clairefontaine race course at Deauville is very pretty and stages regular races. There are rides for the children and it makes a great day out for the whole family. If you like trotting try the other course at Deauville or the Hippodrome at Cabourg."

'Pegasus Bridge'
"During the night of 5/6 June 1944, paratroopers landed here to take the bridge and secure the eastern flank of the D-day landings. The Cafe Gondree just beside the bridge was the first building liberated in France. On the other side of the bridge is an excellent museum explaining the history of the aerial assault."

'Riding - Cabourg'
"Only 15 mins away, the Poney Club at Cabourg offers riding lessons and hacking."

'Sailing School, Merville Franceville'
"The sailing school runs courses every week in sailing, kayaking and windsurfing. Alternatively you can hire the equipment and explore the estuary of the Orne and the coastal waters. It is advisable to book courses in advance."

"Nestling within the dunes, this small and clean heated outside pool offers lessons all day for children of different ages and abilities. Even babies are welcome for the playtime session with their mums!"

"Held on several Sundays throughout the summer, this market sells secondhand and antique items. You can find literally anything especially items left over from the Second World War such as helmets, ammunition casings etc. "

'Fresh Produce Market, Merville Franceville'
"Held every Thursday morning in summer from 9am, this market has fantastic fresh produce - vegetables, cheeses, dried and cured meats, fresh meat, fish and fruits. Try the soft fruit stall just by the Shopi or the cheese stall in front of the fishmongers! If you're peckish try the huge bubbling vats of paella or buy a fresh roasted chicken. The market also sells clothing, accessories and other items. Don't miss it - everyone packs up at 12.00-12.30pm."
