Owners Recommendations

'Cité de la Mer'
"Visit the Cité de la Mer in Cherbourg for a really interesting day out. There are huge aquaria with more living sea creatures than you could imagine and you can visit the submarine Le Redoutable. There are restaurant facilities on site as well. Allow plenty of time. Good idea for a rainy day treat!"

'Local Restaurants'
"There are lots of great restaurants in the area. Three particular favourites are Le Berlingot, on the road to Bricquebec, and Le Jardin Marin (formerly Hermitage) and Le Cap, both in Carteret near the Gare Maritime. The seafood is especially good in the Carteret restaurants and the service is friendly and welcoming."

'The Area'
"Visit the D-day landing beaches; see the Bayeux Tapestry; enjoy the breath-taking sight of Le Mont-St-Michel about a 1 to 2 hour drive from Barneville-Carteret. The area is awash with history from 1066 to the present day. The locals love to pass on their views and memories. Locally produced vegetables and seafood are a treat for foodies, and the local markets are a must for self-catering guests. If you don't know how to cook it, just ask a local - the advice is free and you could end up with Granny's favourite recipe to call your own."

'Working windmill to visit'
"The only fully working windmill in the peninsula is in Fierville-les-Mines, a few kilometres from the gîte. Guided visits of the mill at certain times of the day, an exhibition centre, small shop and crêperie on the site make for a fascinating outing for the whole family."
