A little piece of Paradise in Normandy.....an hour's drive from the ferry at Caen-Ouistreham and on the outskirts of Sourdeval, a lovely little market town in La Manche, along a peaceful lane, under the bridge and up the hill, overlooking beautiful rolling fields and woods with a garden full of butterflies and birdsong.

La Fieffe Corbiere was built in 1850 in local granite for the farm labourer, at a yearly rent of a barrel of butter, then rebuilt to a fantastic standard in 2002, providing all modern comforts but retaining its charming original features, set amidst stunning scenery with lovely walks, particularly along the cycle track at the bottom of our garden, which stretches about 75km from St-Lo in one direction and Mont St Michel in the other, with all sorts of activities close by, from swimming in the outdoor Lido in Mortain, (very swishy indoor pool at Vire, 20 mins away). Horse riding, go-karting, to mad bungee jumping and an amazing outdoors swinging-thru-the-trees adventure park. Markets on every day of the week and excellent restaurants all close by. Only half an hour or so to wonderful beaches and the sea and a little further on the spectacular Mont St Michel. The World War II Normandy Landing Beaches, their fascinating museums and the famous Bayeux Tapestry are within easy reach.

Guest Reviews

Rebecca H. July 2011

"We thoroughly enjoyed our week at the cottage. It was very clean and extremely well equipped - better than many french cottages we have stayed in. Good having 2 en suite bathrooms and such a lovely big bath in the master bedroom. Peaceful and rural with lots of local wildlife. Idealy placed for visiting the D Day beaches, Bayeaux, Mont St Michel and other sites. The UK tv channels were a hit with our children along with the boardgames and large garden. We would definitely recommend it to our friends."

"I have so many great things to say about our stay at this cottage that I hardly know where to begin. First, I should say that the pictures do not do it justice. Walking in was like stepping into a friend's house who had just gone out for a while.
Not only was everything cozy, charming, and lovely, but the kitchen had everything we could possibly have wanted. It even had the odds and ends that make a house a home. Orange juice squeezer? Check. Grater? Check. Colander? Double check - there were 2. There were also spices and sugar in the cabinet. Oh, and did I mention, that there is a herb garden at the back of the house? We picked our own oregano for the "poulet" and had fresh mint for our tea!
The other thing I loved, besides the gorgeous scenery and the great walking/biking trail just down the lane, was the enormous bathtub in the master bathroom. I'll never know how they managed to get it up there, but I will be eternally grateful that they did.
My husband, our 2 teenage daughters, and I spent 5 days at the cottage. We took day trips to visit Mont St. Michel and the Normandy American Cemetery and memorial near Colleville-Sur-Mer. We also went to the market day in Sourdeval, where all of the vendors and shopkeepers were very friendly and helpful. They were very patient with my broken French, which I really appreciated. The rest of the time we went on long walks, watched the cows and rabbits, read books (there is quite a collection at the cottage), and basically just relaxed. It was wonderful."

"We have just returned from spending a lovely Autumn week at this fabulous cottage that Lynne & Ray own. From the outset Lynne provided a wealth of information to help with our stay and we found the cottage easily from Lynne's directions.
The Cottage is homely, clean, very comfortable, excellent double bedrooms and the best equipped kitchen of all the cottages we have stayed in. You really feel that it is a home from home, which we have felt previously, is not the case with some cottages.
The surrounding area is quiet (until our 3 young children were playing in the large garden) and the dedicated public French Walkways which one passes close by the cottage, allowed us to have excellent, safe walks, whilst picking chestnuts and enjoying the scenery of a forest walk.
The local town is close by with many super patisserie’s and convenience shops, and we found the location ideal to explore the Normandy beaches as well as Mont St Michel and many other areas.
I would say the cottage is ideal for walkers as well as families, as others have reviewed and the log fire gives an excellent comfort feel in the evenings.
Lynne thanks again for your help and allowing us to stay at your cottage every one of us really enjoyed every day there."
