Owners Recommendations

Eating Out

'Rochefoucauld/ Le Lindoes'
"There are numerous places to eat nearby with probably the best ones being located in Rochefoucauld, 20 minutes drive away. Apart from 2 modest café/bars in the village of Montemboeuf, the nearest restaurant is located 10 minutes drive away at Le Lindois. "

Local Area and Activities

'Adventure Park'
"There are many attractions and activities near us and should suit all tastes and ages, young, old, couples or families and this Adventure Park is ideal for the youngsters. "

'Angouleme'
"A visit to Angouleme is a must. Car parking is reasonable with an adequate number of spaces and fairly priced. Views from the top of the city are excellent. If shopping is the call, then a morning's therapy is the answer. The superb Cathedral and stunning architecture are worth seeing, as are the various historical tours. The castles are also great to visit. The station provides the TGV train link to Paris - only 2 hours (and a nice credit card bill!) anyway. There is plenty of evening entertainment with a variety of clubs etc. During the day, festivals of one sort and another abound throughout the year. There is a superb market with every sort of fresh produce from wonderful fruit, veg, meat, fish, bread and cheese - a gourmet's paradise. "

'Charente Lakes'
"10 minutes drive away to the east of our cottage are the Charente Lakes. There are many facilities including swimming, boating, canoeing, kayaking, rowing (hiring and lessons), windsurfing, fishing, walking, play facilities and an excellent restaurant and bar."

'Cognac'
"A tour of one of the distilleries is worthwhile, as is a view of the glass factories. A trip around the city with its history and museums is a must."

'Confolens'
"Some 30 minutes drive northwards there is this charming medieval city where two rivers come together. Attractions include, guided tours of the City with its tremendous architecture and historic features. Leisure activities include swimming, bowling, fishing and walking. Excellent variety of restaurants and eateries."

'Limoges'
"Within and around it are various porcelain factories with beautiful, quality items at reasonable prices. "

'Oradour-sur-Glane'
"This place is awesome and leaves one stunned. It is a monument of a village ransacked by the Nazis in World War 2. The buildings remain unchanged from those times as do relics of rusty old cars and bikes. A walk in the silence is very moving, particularly with people's names above the battered door frames. In addition, there is a modern, high tech museum showing the history of the event. It includes many pictures and old newsreels. We should never forget. "

'Rochefoucauld'
"There is a stately castle which merits a trip. The town has fine eateries. There is a good Tourist Information Centre which will give you much more information on what to do and what to see."

'Sports'
"There is a good tennis court available in Montemboeuf and there is an 18-hole golf course some 10 minutes drive away just past the village of L'Arbe. Just before reaching Rochefoucauld on the road from Montemboeuf there is a GOKART racetrack. "

'St Emillion'
"A very attractive village located on a hillside with stunning views and many historical exhibits of international and world renown. All this apart from tours of the wineries and their excellent products!"
