The market town of Aigre is situated 8km south and caters for all your basic needs including a supermarket, petrol station, banks, bars, restaurants, weekly markets and much more.
Angouleme, the capital city of Poitou Charente, lies 45km south. Angouleme old town is based around the chapel and has some interesting medieval houses (some rather grand) along the pedestrianised cobbled streets. Within the town there are 2 main features - the cathedral and the town hall.
The Roman style Cathedral of Saint Peter dates back 900 years, but has been altered a great deal since. It is the ornately decorated facade that holds the most interest, with 70 carvings depicting the story of the Ascension.
The town hall was built on the site of an earlier chateau, of which just 2 towers now remain.
There are also several museums in the town, including a museum of fine arts, a museum of paper (the prosperity of the town was originally founded on the production of paper) and an archaeology museum.
Sorry no smoking inside the property.

What to See and Do
Owners Recommendations
Local Area and Activities
'Cognac'
"Try the Rémy Martin Cognac tour. Remy Martin, founded in 1724 derives its name from 2 families, who shared the same vision and determination to produce the exceptional quality Cognac we know today. Learn how Cognac is made on a tour that includes a ride on the Fine Champagne Train through the facility, a miniature vineyard and several cellars, and finishing up with a tasting."
'Futuroscope'
"A theme park situated in Poitiers in the Poitou-Charente - Western France. It is one of France's most visited attractions. "
'Les Antilles de Jonzac '
"A vast leisure complex including swimming lagoon with slides, cascades and geysers and wave-pool. There are artificial indoor and outdoor beaches, tropical gardens, a fitness suite, a beauty salon, a restaurant and more. The complex is open 7 days a week. The roof slides partially open in the summer months to let the sun shine in. Next door to 'Les Antilles' is a casino which hosts various spectacular shows and also boasts a superb restaurant. Jonzac itself has many attractions, ample bars, restaurants, shops a medieval chateau and an outdoor leisure park with a man-made beach, boating lake, aerial runways, a climbing wall and lots of other activities for young and old alike. You can also visit the thermal spas for beauty treatments and total rejuvenation. "
'Oradour sur Glane'
"This was a village totally destroyed by the Nazi’s in the Second World War, 642 men, woman and children massacred by a German Panzer Division. Walking around the centre is a unique and humbling experience. In 1999 the Oradour memorial centre was opened by the French president Jacques Chirac and the French minister of culture Catherine Trautmann. The village has been left exactly as it was on the day of the massacre down to a rusting car in the street. Distance 81km"
'Zoodyssee'
"One of Europe’s largest animal parks set in the forest of Chize. Vegetation appropriate to the habitat of the animals has been planted to give them as close to a natural environment as possible. Located at Villiers-en-Bois near Chize. More than 600 animals can be seen, including otters, vultures, wolves, cicadas, tree frogs and wildcats. You can explore the forest on foot or in a horse drawn carriage. There is also a mini farm and an adventure playground for children."
