On the ground floor you will enjoy the use of a large open plan lounge/dining area. The kitchen has been furnished with fitted cabinets, fridge, cooker, washing machine, microwave, all the usual crockery, cutlery, pots and pans. Dining table and chairs and easy chairs for relaxing in. Coffee table, electric fire and fireplace.

There is an open tread staircase to the upper floor leading to a double bedroom with fitted wardrobes, chest of drawers and french windows and a twin bedroom with 2 single beds, fitted wardrobe and chest of drawers.

There is a modern shower room with wc, vanity unit and shower cubicle.

Bed linen and towels can be hired.

Private parking. The garden has a table, chairs and barbecue.

The cottage is located in the quiet village of Chaban on the edge of the Venise Vert, much warmer version of the Norfolk Broads, which can be explored by punt or via miles of cycle track. The adjoining village of Cram has a bar and bakery. Several vans visit the village selling bread, meat and fish.

The market town of Mauze-sur-le-Mignan is 4km away and has a variety of small shops and large Intermarche supermarket, banks and tennis courts. It has a small food market on Wednesday and Saturday mornings and a much larger market on the first Wednesday of the month.

Surgeres is 9km away and has 3 supermarkets including a large Le Clerc and a full range of small shops and a good selection of restaurants.  Enjoy a stroll around the chateau and church with walled gardens. Markets twice a week. It has a main line station offering TGV train travel to Paris in 2.5 hrs.

Boating on the canals of the Marais Poitevin with delightful canalside villages of Coulon and Arcais; both have great restaurants and have cycle hire available.

Niort is a 20 minute drive away and is a large town with narrow shopping streets, large glass frame indoor market, which is open every day except Monday, one of the finest donjon in France, an impressive Hotel de Ville and parks to stroll along in. There are several churches to visit including the Church of Notre Dame built mainly in the 15th and 16th centuries which has a large stained glass Jesse window, Renaissance choir stalls and a fine organ. A selection of bistros and restaurants. Good golf course.  

The historic port of La Rochelle is a half hour drive away with its marina and large aquarium. It has winding streets with numerous shops and restaurants, a cathedral and many museums to visit. Boat trips to Fort Boyard and the neighbouring islands of Ile de Re, Ile d'Aix and Ile d'Oleron .

Beaches of the Atlantic coast are readily accessible with Chatelaillon Plage and Fouras being closest.

Other attractions : St-Jean-d'Angely - built on the site of a Roman villa on the banks of the River Boutonne. Visit the old abbey and wander the medieval streets with their half-timbered houses and 15th century clock tower. Alternatively, visit the Atlantys pool complex with leisure pools, diving board and 54m water flume.

Cognac - famous for the century old production of the brandy that bears its name and birth place of Francois 1st. Visit the many Cognac houses including Hennessy, Remy Martin and Martell. Also visit the parc Francois 1st with its beautiful lawns, streams and bridges. Walk through cobbled streets of the old town.

Futuroscope - on the outskirts of Poitiers, France's premier theme park, with its 18 zones including Imax cinemas, 3D imagery, holograms, simulator rides and special effects that provide fun for all the family.

Le Grand Parc of Puy de Fou - just off the A87 at Les Epesses, Vendee. Takes you on an exciting journey back through time.
