Le Repos des Hiboux (Owl's Rest)
Villenouvelle is a small hamlet situated in the north of the Charente-Maritime. Less than 5 minutes away is our nearest village with all local amenities including co-op, boulangerie, doctors, dentist, pharmacy, bar/restaurant and church.
We have been welcoming guests to our gites for 8 years and thoroughly enjoy the experience. We offer a very warm welcome, continuous hospitality and a commitment to offering a great holiday and a relaxing time. We are very proud of our good reputation.
Our gites have all been renovated to a high standard. Each have their own enclosed rear garden, perfect for families with younger children. In addition there is a communal courtyard to the front for playing and socialising with other guests. Our gites are well equipped to enjoy a great holiday. English tv and wi-fi accessibility is standard.
Ideally placed for outings to La Rochelle, Rochefort, The Marais Poitevin, Cognac, Poitiers and Bordeaux to name but a few, our holiday homes offer a comfortable base if you wish to explore the Poitou Charentes and Aquitaine Regions. With the added advantage of having 4 low cost airports nearby (La Rochelle, Poitiers, Bordeaux and Angouleme) we are just hours away!
Alternatively, you may wish to shut yourselves away from the world and enjoy our 12 x 6m heated swimming pool (via solar panels). All you'll need is a good book or IPod and a bottle of sun lotion ..... perfect !!

To the front of the gites, there is a communal courtyard for children to play and an eating area for everyone to socialise with together. The Wheatfields has its own enclosed garden which is both south and west facing - perfect for evening bbqs! (bbq provided). There are 3 different terraces to maximise on eating and sunbathing potential. Sunloungers are provided in the garden, in addition to a large table, parasol and 8 chairs. Les Tournesols has its own enclosed south facing garden. There is a large covered patio for shade with table, chairs, sun loungers and bbq. | General: | The Charente Maritime can offer you both rest and recuperation by our heated pool or if you prefer, there are many attractions nearby to explore. To try and help you plan your holiday, take a look at some suggested excursions. Full Day 1.Royan - Morning visit to La Palmyre zoo. Afternoon spent on the beach or a visit to Ile D’ Oleron. 2.La Rochelle. Visit to the Aquarium in the morning followed by a walk around the harbour and La Rochelle Old Town. 3.Ile de Ré – Famous for it’s beautiful beaches. Have a drive around the islands before choosing one of the many beaches. Walk around the harbour at St Martin and find a good restaurant. 4.Cognac/Jarnac - Famous for the distilleries of the world‘s best selling cognacs. 5.Saintes – Large shopping centre with the advantage of historic monuments within walking distance. Many good restaurants. 6.Bassin d’Arcachon – The Dune du Pyla is a must. If you have time, spend the afternoon and evening in Bordeaux, further north and on the way home. 7.Bordeaux - Worth a day trip just to see the magnificent buildings. 8.Futurescope – Theme park located near Poitiers, great for children of all ages. 9.Rochefort – A visit to the Corderie Royale and the construction of Hermione. Half Day 1.Surgeres – Pretty and historic market town. 2.St. Jean D’Angley – Historic town with the Abbey Royale and Fountain. 3.Marais Poitevin – Aptly called ‘Venise Verte’ because of its canal network. Great place for an afternoons trip when the heat of the sun has gone. Many riverside restaurants offering a good selection of meals for midday or evening. 4.Chize Zoo – Not as large as La Palmyre, however, only 10 minutes away and worth a visit if you have children and are short of time. 5. Dampierre Sur Boutonne This beautiful renaissance chateau is only 5 minutes away. Destroyed by fire in 2002, and recently renovated. Coupled with beautiful gardens, a maze, and picnic tables, this place is a must see. |
