Owners Recommendations

Eating Out

'La Bonne Vie - Le Beugnon'
"Excellent lunches and evening meals set next to a beautiful church in this pretty village, with lovely views from the terrace where you can enjoy your aperitif."

'La Cote de Boeuf - Melle'
"This very welcoming and relaxed restaurant offers a wide range of dishes, but the fillet steak was one of the best we've had!"

'Le Chateau - Le Petit Chene'
"Le Chateau offers lunches, either in the informal restaurant or out on the covered terrace. Anything from a baguette to the 2 or 3-course menu du jour which includes a glass of wine or beer. The main course salads are also worth trying and are good value for money. Wonderful setting and ideal for families and less than 10 mins away."

'Le Logis - Champdeniers'
"This typically French restaurant, just 10 minutes drive away should not be missed. Enjoy local specialities and home-grown produce, but you must book."

'Niort'
"A big choice of restaurants in the departmental capital and one-time medieval port. Two of the regions finest restaurants are La Belle Etoile and Le Melane. Just outside Niort we can recommend L'Auberge de la Roussille."

'Parthenay'
"There are more than 30 restaurants to choose from in medieval Parthenay (an easy 15-20 min drive), but you must try La Truffade and La Citadelle. L'Esplanade is excellent value for money, if you just want a light lunch or supper. We can also recommend Le Jardin St Laurent"

Local Area and Activities

'Chateaux '
"Chateau d'Oiron, Chateau St Mesmin and Chateau du Coudray-Salbart are just some of the many chateaux to explore in the area, and Chateau Nucheze is just 10 mins away. "

'Cycling'
"The surrounding countryside is ideal for exploring by bike. Quiet lanes and rolling countryside."

'Gardens'
"A whole variety of gardens and arboreta to visit across the area, but 3 within close proximity, including Jardin Val de Flore. "

'Golf'
"Le Petit Chene, a magnificent 18-hole golf course, open to the public all year, is just 5km away. "

'Plans d'Eau'
"There are 17 plans d'eau in Deux-Sevres and 2 within 10 minutes drive (St Christophe which is the venue for a fantastic fireworks display on Bastille Day and Verruyes) offering beaches, lakes, picnic areas, swimming, fishing and restaurants. Lifeguard supervision in season."

'St Marc-La-Lande'
"Imposing 12th century church/collegiale, medicinal herb garden, agricultural museum. Free admission."

'Walking'
"A whole variety of walks available straight from the gite, to suit all levels. A number of circular walks, with maps, have been put together for our visitors to enjoy."

Markets and Shopping

'Coulonges-sur-l'Autize'
"Every Tuesday and Saturday. A colourful and lively market stretching along the streets and in the main square. Lots of local produce (free tastings of honey and cheeses) as well as fish and meats in the indoor covered market. Locals as well as visitors queue to get their moules from the famous stall just off the main square. "

'Niort'
"Every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. A large, bustling market selling a wide range of produce in the centre of Niort. A wonderful Christmas market, with log cabins, runs all through December as well."

'Parthenay'
"Every Wednesday you can find local produce, wonderful cheeses and honey as well as a whole range of fresh meat and fish in the covered market. "
