| Location and activities: | The village of La Saunerie is near the town of Champdeniers in the Poitou Charente region of Western France, about an hour inland from La Rochelle. Champdeniers has a very good supermarket selling fresh meat and fish, goats cheeses, fruit and vegetables, as well as clothes, espadrilles, kitchenware etc. There is a bank in Champdeniers where you can change money. There are three lakes nearby - nearest 3 miles - for swimming, fishing or boating. All the lakes have sandy beaches and activities for young children. There are swimming pools in Secondigny, Niort and Parthenay. There is also an excellent golf course only 2 miles away. Bird watchers are well catered for in the vicinity and there are marked tracks for cycling and walking. | Bedrooms: | The first bedroom has a double bed and large wardrobe. The double also has French windows that open onto the terrace. The second bedroom has bunk beds and two single beds. All the beds have duvets and English pillows. Bed linen and towels are provided and the beds will be made up before you arrive. |

| Kitchen: | The kitchen area contains a fridge-freezer, gas cooker with oven, grill and a microwave cooker. In a separate cupboard there is a washing machine, hoover, ironing board and iron. All cutlery, glasses, plates, cooking utensils and tea towels are provided. |
| Dining: | The gîte has a well equipped open plan kitchen/living room, with French doors which open onto the sunny terrace surrounded by attractive gardens. |
| Living area: | The comfortable living room provides a sitting area and traditional wood burning stove providing heat in cold weather. |
| Outside: | Outside there is a picnic table that seats six. Close by, guests will discover a shady boule court next to a small stream. There is also a barbecue for guests who like to cook in the open air. The grounds contain secluded spots for sunbathing and areas for children to play. |
| General: | There is a wood burning stove for which there is a small extra charge. Three adult bikes and some children's bikes are available for use at no extra cost. |

"La Rochelle is a beautiful old port with wonderful seafood restaurants and marvellous street entertainment during the summer. Other resorts are just over an hour away - offering some excellent beaches, surfing, rock pooling etc. The islands, accessible by huge bridges, are also well worth a day out. "

"The Marais - a drained marshland park - is only half an hour away. Called locally "La Venise Verte" (Green Venice) the area is criss-crossed with peaceful little canals, lovely and cool in the hottest summers.
