GUESTS' COMMENTS

"Everyone always hopes that 'this' holiday will be the 'best ever' ....it has been. The accommdation is well appointed and just like it's hosts Margaret and Brian - wonderfully welcoming.  ......this has been the first year in France proper. Off the tourist trail but not off the beaten track. The garden provided much needed calm and peace in between sorties to Saumur, Futuroscope, Breze, Thenezay, Parthenay and one excursion to Cognac!

As for the swimming pool like the equation shows - children + water = squeals and delight.  The double bed/sofa was a delight to put away,.........Nuff said!" The Bds. Sutton Surrey ( Extract) 28.7.2007

" Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the region, gite clean, comfortable and had every amenity you could wish for. Loved the pool! Cottage in a great location: close to many attractions and Thenezay, Gourge and Parthenay all lovely places. Villandry and Ambroise well worth a visit. 'Puy du Fou' Theme Park a great day out, especially for children. Ile de Re near La Rochelle well worth the 16.50 euro 'peage' fee, lovely beaches. La Rochelle also a great place to visit but busy. Adrien, Sarah, Dan and Nat, West Yorkshire. 2008

First time in France and thoroughly enojed ourselves; totally different holiday to what we normally do, but we feel totally relaxed and chilled out.  ........ The countryside is magnificent and plenty of wildlife to see. The cottage is fantastic home from home with all amenitues....... Seen some wonderful churches......The fishing is quite an eyeopener. The Thouet' although picturesque will frustrate you with 'la poisson chat' but it is fun. Etang de la Barre (at Gourge) is great. Peter and Joan 2009

Owners Recommendations

'Favourite Restaurants '
"Where to start is the question as there is such a choice! Detailed information above those listed below and others is available in the cottage. 'Le Chapeau Rouge' About 15 mins away in the centre of St Loup Lamaire. This is a family restaurant, which is full of charm and character whether you eat inside the ancient building or on the vine covered terrace. The food is good value and the service friendly. Lunchtime menu 12.50 euro. 'La Citadelle' Grill - Specialites de Viande' set in an ancient house full of character in the Medieval Quarter of Parthenay. Excellent choice on the menu board and good service. We have hd several good celebration meals here. 'La Truffade'This restaurant is named after it's specialist dish from the Auvergne - a delicious mashed potato with cheese which it offers with a variety of meats. Second helpings have been known to offered to those who clear their plate! 'La Tamboille'is set in one of the little lanes in the centre of Parthenay. The menu board is excellent and the service good either at lunch time or in the evening. Again a place to celebration without breaking the bank. While sight-seeing or shopping in Parthenay two places come to mind. 'Le Drapeau' a bar and grill with a good 10.50 menu. The second in 'Les Templiers' which offers pizzas, salads, grills and crepes. Again the menu is reasonably priced and should suit all members of the family. "

'For the Children'
"For the younger members of the family 'Parc de la Vallee' with 30 attractions including a new giant slide. For 1.50 euro extra there is a newly opened Water Park. www.parcdelavalle.com For the older children and teenagers - 'Parc Aventure' offers 5 exciting possibilities for adventure. For the little ones ages 2-6 years - a possibility to discover adventure with secure equipment. For the older child 2 hours of fun on an intermediate course which privides a stepping stone to the greater adventure. Minimum height 1.10m children less than 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Challenge yourself with 2.30 hours adventure swinging from tree to tree. Minimum height 1.40m. Under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. 'La Vallee des Singes' suits all the family. It has 350 monkeys including families of gorillas, and a groups of young chimpanzees, all at liberty in natural surroundings without cages. It is possible to walk amongst the familes of the smaller monkeys and see the mother and babies at close quarters. Feeding times are marked on the programme and are organised so it is possible to see a selection of different species fed.www.la-valle-des-singes.fr Good for an escape from the sun or a dodgy day - visit 'La Planete des Crocodiles' More than 200 crocodiles of 8 species in an environment close to their original habitat with great fauna and flora. www.planete-crocodiles.com "

'Rich Treasures of the Region'
"We are less than an hour from the Loire Valley with it's collection of beautiful chateaux. However, certain lesser known treasures are well worth a visit. The Medieval Quarter in Parthenay, although the houses are still lived in, is a trip into the past. Parthenay lies on the pilgrims' trail from north France to Santiago in northen Spain. As a result there are some beautiful and grand churches in the local area. St Loup, Gourge, Airvault, all within 15 mins of us. The churches are well worth looking at for their history and beauty. The Abbey of Saint-Savin is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This 1000 year old majestic Abbey is at the top of a series of religous buildings set in the valley of the Frescos. The incredible frescos tell the story of the bible, 17 meters above your head. In the monks' cells visitors can use a audio guide and video displays to learn the secrets of the murals and the abbey's history. "

'Theme Parks'
"We are blessed with 2 great theme parks both within 1 hour's drive. FUTUROSCOPE - Here you can take part in a futuristic race; travel at the speed of light and go to magical places via video technology. At the end of day there is a Son et Lumiere musical show over the lake to add to your enjoyment. www.futuroscope.com PUY DU FOU - Travel back in time to watch the Gladiators fight in the huge arena and witness a Roman Chariot Race reminiscent of 'Ben Hur'. See the Viking Ship rise out the lake and the ensuing battle that takes place. Just two examples of the many spectacular shows full of stunning special effects and gigatic machines.www.puydufou.com"
