Local Area and Activities
'Amphoralis, Salleles d'Aude'
"Roman Pottery. A unique site of Roman kilns and exhibitions of Roman pottery making."
'Canal du Midi'
"Follow the canal towpath on foot or cycle (great for cycling softies - no hills). Visit pretty villages and stop for lunch or a drink in one of the many bars and restaurants."
'Carcassonne Festival'
"July and August - Carcassonne festival in both the Bastide and Citadel. Music concerts, 2009 - Seal, Liza Minelli, Status Quo, Oc the celebrated Occitan group to name but a few. Plays and street artists. 14th July - the worlds best ever firework display with the medieval citadel as the backdrop, simply stunning.
"
'Carcassonne, Medievel Citadel'
"A real "must see" visit. A UNESCO world heritage site. The citadel was saved from ruin and renovated in the 18th century. English speaking tours available in the inner castle and the rampart walk. Wonderful views of the surrounding countryside from the outer ramparts.
Whilst in Carcassonne, also visit the bastide - low town. A good shopping centre with a lively and colourful saturday market in the place Carnot. Also worth a visit, the museum of Beaux Arts - excellent visiting expo's as well as permanent one's."
'Mediterranean beaches - Gruissan plage'
"Clean, sandy beach. Lifeguard protected. Interesting beach houses on stilts. Why not visit Gruissan marina or old village after a hard day working on your suntan. A good selection of bars, restuarants and shops. Evening entertainments throughout July and August."
'Mediterranean Beaches - Narbonne Plage'
"Vast, clean sandy beaches. Even in July and August you will never feel crowded and never more than a few paces from the waters edge. Lifeguard protected."
Markets and Shopping
'Les Halles, Narbonne'
"Daily covered food market, lively and colourful in the centre of Narbonne. An excellent "showcase" for local and regional produce. Open every morning 7am to 1pm - a must for all foodies!"
'Oulibo olive oil co-operative'
"Situated in the hamlet of Cabezac, just a stones throw from La Petite Tuilerie, is the olive oil co-operative OULIBO. The area is well known for its olives and their high quality. Tastings of olives and olive oils in the shop and an excellent range of local produce and crafts."
