About the Property

Cottage at le Bisson, near Vire, Calvados, Normandy.

Our beautiful old stone cottage is set in its own little valley with babbling brook and pretty pond (ducks usually visit after lunch!). 2007 the brook dried up (yes, I know - in THAT summer!) - lets see if it returns!
The south facing main rooms have tiled floors and large shuttered windows. Double and twin bedrooms, lounge with woodstove, tv and dvd (lots of dvd's in case it rains!), 2 bathrooms (bath, shower). Electric radiators throughout. Kitchen includes cooker and oven, microwave, washing machine, fridge-freezer, etc. Garden furniture with bbq, and boules and badminton for you too!
There's a bar and shop 5km whichever way you turn - south past the old chateau or north to Maisoncelles la Jourdan. Another 5km takes you to the ancient town of Vire.
Vire has a great market, indoor swimming pool with slide, a museum, good supermarkets, garden centres and so on.
Visit many memorable places within easy reach. You're in the heart of Calvados in Normandy - 45 to 90 minutes from the ferries at Cherbourg, Caen and St. Malo. You'll have a little welcome pack for when you arrive (wouldn't include wine, would it? Champage Luxury Pack if you desire available too!).
Within easy reach are the wonderful beaches at Granville, the stunning Mont St Michel, the WW2 beaches of Normandy, the Bayeux Tapestry, Henry 2's town of Tichebray, plenty of wonderful countryside to explore, food trails (it is Camembert and Calvados country, after all!) and local markets.
Or try the various outdoor activities from canoeing to rambling, bungee jumping to golf. There are cascades to clamber round, a lake full of sports, lots of fishing too.
Or escape from the hustle and bustle in our peaceful country idyll - sit and enjoy baguettes, cheese and wine all day!

Owners Recommendations

'Food and Drink'
"We list the market days for each local town and village in our gite and within reach we have Camembert (cheese) itself. Isigny (butter) is not far. The area is called Calvados (cider brandy)! As for the real local delicacy - Andouille. Hmmm"

'Nature - Birds and Flowers'
"Walk from the cottage along to the château, or a short drive to the Vire Gorges, or Mortain Cascades, or round the Lake Dathee. We have seen coypu, a black stork, many raptors, orchids, primroses and more! There is a local herd of donkeys and a herd of bison."
