Dating from the 11th century, La Commanderie des Templiers is a beautiful stone mill resting on the banks of the River Ne, surrounded by forest and the local vineyards. As the name suggests, the original building housed the command post of the Knights Templar during the Crusades. Chez Meunier, our gite accommodation, was the millers home and is a deceptively spacious house. With 3 double bedrooms, a big airy sitting room and a huge kitchen/diner with the largest oak table you have ever seen, there is plenty of space for 6-9 adults.

Formerly the village school and attending houses, L'Ancienne Ecole has been tastefully refurbished to provide comfortable air conditioned accommodation in 4 spacious gites. 3km to the west of L'Ancienne Ecole lies Gemozac where you will find restaurants, supermarkets, banks, Post Office, doctors, chemists and bakers. A market is held in the village every Friday with a larger market on the third Friday of the month. Each gite has a large selection of up to date leaflets for ideas on days out, children's activities and places of interest.

Le Martin-Pecheur is part of Beaumont holiday cottages which consists of a farmhouse dating from 1822 and 5 gites on a 10-acre site in the heart of the sunny Charente-Maritime. There is plenty to see and do, with historic towns, like La Rochelle and Saintes, or lively seaside resorts, such as Royan all within about half an hours drive. Rochefort, under 10 minutes away, is the nearest large town with a superb morning market, good shops, museums and historic buildings, many dating back to the 17th century when the town was founded as a defense against the British. Smaller towns, for example the citadel of Brouage, as well as fascinating chateaux and the glorious beaches of the Cote Sauvage and the Ile d'Oléron are just as near - in fact our nearest beach is only about 6km away. The area is a centre for bird-watching with several reserves within easy reach.

We are an Anglo/Danish couple who came here in 2005 and developed the garden flat. One of us is always on hand to welcome guests/give information about the area. After the initial tour round the accommodation we sometimes do not see guests until the following Saturday. Others have become personal friends. This delightful cottage is set in the grounds of a 19th century winemakers manoir. It sits amongst the vines of the Anjou wine region, at the edge of a village with boulangerie, charcuterie and a small general store. There are 2 large, attractively furnished bedrooms, one with a kingsize (UK) bed and the other with 2 singles. There is a double sofabed to accommodate additional guests. The living room retains much character with original exposed beams and tomette floors with an old fireplace. The fully equipped kitchen/diner leads out to the sunny south facing terrace complete with bbq and dining setting where you can relax whilst enjoying the views across the countryside. The fully enclosed pool area features a 10 x 5m pool, plus loungers and umbrellas. There is a utility room and a 'games' room with games, books and a foosball table. Also, balls, badminton and boules are available. In the local area, there are wineries and our region is ideal for walking, cycling or sightseeing with chateaux and old towns to explore.The cottage is 20 mins drive from the historical Loire town of Saumur. Doue La Fontaine which has an excellent zoo, Montreuil-Bellay has a beautiful chateau and Thouars which is an historic market town are all between 10-15 mins drive. The Puy de Fou, a medievel theme park, is about an hour away, as is Futuroscope, the science fiction park.
