The Western Loire's 4 wine terroirs are situated around the city of Nantes. The most widely known and arguably the best is Muscadet Sevre in Maine. The wine-growers in Western Loire take their profession a little more leisurely here and allow the grape juice to rest over winter prior to bottling. The dry white wine produced in this region is a fine companion for shellfish. However, do sample your wines carefully as not all Muscadets winter well and quality does vary. You will also find that this area overlaps with Central Loire wine-growing regions so there will be an abundance of alternatives for you to sample. Depending on your Holiday France Direct location, Western Loire offers many alternatives so you too may have to rest over the winter as well as the grapes before coming back for another summer assault.
