In the summer, Vannes is the venue for an open-air festival of jazz held under the town’s lime trees within the port ramparts. A jazz parade is held on the first evening and streets and bars come alive at night as famous musicians gather together to hold friendly jam sessions.

This 10 day event attracts over 650,000 visitors and is a celebration of Celtic creative arts. Founded in 1971, this Breton festival welcomes artists from all over the world performing theatre, dancing, painting and sculpting. Some 5,000 performers are in about 200 shows. Highlights include the Grand Parade of the Celtic Nations and the grand finale of the Breton pipe band, the bagad. There are also classical, folk, jazz and rock musicians performing and visitors can experience fiddle music, bagpipe lessons, Gaelic workshops and ceilidhs, Celtic food and drink. Adults from €25.
