Red and white waymarking signs indicate long distance GR walking routes. The GR34 follows the Brittany coastline and hiking sections of it makes for superb days out from your holiday home. On the Finistere coast, for example, you will find the 100km Chemin des Phares - the Lighthouse Route. Starting at Brest and ending at Portsall, you can see some 23 of this coastline's 111 beacons and lighthouses. Trezien lighthouse marks where the Atlantic Ocean and the English Channel meet whilst north of Portsall is Europe's hightest lighthouse on l'Ile Vierge at 82.5m high. Brittany abounds with other themed routes. La Route des Peintres en Cornouaille follows in the footsteps of Redon and Gauguin and by walking La Route du Cidre you'll find traditional Breton cider breweries set in picturesque apple orchards. And, back on the coast, enjoy some of Brittany's pretty fishing villages - and seafood - on La Route des Ports de Peche.
