Provence/Cotes d'Azur has 3 main appellation controlee regions covering a large wine-growing area from Marseille to Nice. Although growing conditions differ, they all benefit from one constant - the sun. The Cotes de Provence regions produce half of all the rosé wine produced in France - it accounts for 80% of the region's production. Rosé makes for a perfect summer aperitif and just gives a real flavour of the Mediterranean. Bandol wine is one of the oldest and dates back to Roman times; this appellation nestles between Toulon and La Cotat and utilises the Mourvedre grape to produce a strong red wine with body and spice. And for something rather special, look no further than the Bellet appellation which produces limited high quality original red, white and rose wines.
