The most famous chateau in Orne is probably Chateau de Carrouges, made in pink stone topped with pointed turrets it really looks like something out of a fairytale. It's especially worth visiting during the festival of hunting that is put on every year when you can see a fascinating array of exhibitors and displays. The ruined Chateau de Domfort dates from Norman times and exploring the ruins and the medieval architecture, shops and restaurants of the town itself makes for a pleasant afternoon out. Chateau de Sassy is a stately home built in the 18th Century, it's well furnished with antiques and curios including a lock of hair from King Louis VI! The manicured gardens and family chapel in the grounds are also worth a look. And by staying in a chateau, you can experience it all for yourself.
