The Charente region is named after the river that runs through it. It is situated in South-western France and enjoys a Mediterranean climate, making holiday cottages in Charente a perfect destination for a relaxing summer break. The countryside is full of opportunities for hiking, cycling or horse riding. One of the largest cities in Charente is Cognac, and you can visit the museum there to see how the famous brandy is made. Be sure to try some Cognac and the less well-known aperitif called Pineau des Charentes too, they make great souvenirs to take back home. Food lovers will be pleased to hear that Charente is also a major producer of premium black truffles.
