Nord Pas de Calais cottages are in the northernmost part of France bordering Belgium. The main city in the region is Lille and you can see the Flemish influence in the architecture. The Grand Place is a square in the centre of town; enjoy people-watching and soak up the atmosphere at one of the many cafes and restaurants and take a turn on the big wheel for a bird's eye view of the city. In winter the square plays host to a very popular Christmas market. The other main attraction of a holiday in Nord Pas de Calais is the chance to visit Dunkirk, site of the famous beach evacuation in WW2. The Memorial du Souvenir museum explains the history and is housed in one of the original bunkers on Dunkirk beach.
