The Brittany coastline offers many places to fish from the shore. Fishing trips can be booked for mackerel, bass and other sea fish depending on season. Inland, the Rivers Trieux, L'Hyres and Couesnan, to mention just a few, have pike, perch, bream, carp and many others of the 35 species found in Brittany. The Nantes-Brest Canal can be fished for pike, rudd, and zander, also wild carp. On the tidal River Rance, you may catch bass and mackerel. Brittany is well known for its lakes where large carp can be caught. Permits are needed for all fishing, available from tabacs, tackle shops and Post Offices. Category 1 rivers and lakes need extra permission on top of the usual permit.
