Fishing does not immediately spring to mind when talking about Provence. Sea fishing from boats for bass and other species is available and beyond the coastline of the Riviera the rivers and lakes will give you fine fishing. The River La Sorgues which flows from a fissure in the rocks (no one knows where its underground source is) keeps a constant level and temperature which encourages quick growth in the trout and grayling found here. The fast flowing River L'Issole and the River Verdon are good for fly fishing for trout and the Ceze river can be fished for carp, pike, bleak and roach. For those who prefer lake fishing, Castillon Lake holds arctic char, pike, perch, carp and trout. Esparron and Quinson Lakes contain mostly game fish including pike, perch and some trout. Permits and regulation information available at local tabacs.
