About this property

Comfortable Rural Gite with Private Pool. This cottage/gite is in a rural setting.

It offers comfortable, roomy accommodation for 2-6 people. The lounge features a magnificent traditional fireplace which augments the central heating during the winter months. Outside there is a large garden with plenty of lawns providing room for the bbq and outdoor furniture beside the pool. There is ample garden space for outdoor games and for quiet relaxation.

Enjoy the wildlife experience with us, we have a bat detector, a moth trap and an Astronomical Telescope for stargazers! The wide open skies here ensure some superb sunsets and opportunities for stargazing.

Mature trees provide shade when needed and the garden is carefully tended by the owners, who live next door. The local area is renowned for it's natural history with a variety of diverse habitats for wildflowers, especially orchids, birds and butterflies. We are both very keen on natural history and are only too happy to offer any help or advice.

Vegetables and fresh herbs are available from the garden in season along with soft fruits and apples and pears.

About the Owner/Advertiser, Mr Andrew Price

After 30 years in the tourist industry, a restaurant in Devon and holiday cottages in Cornwall, we left UK in 2007 for Asturias, we subsequently moved here in 2010 having fallen in love with Brantome. We both love the countryside, natural history, gardening and the peace and quiet of our surroundings here.

Year property purchased 2010
Why this location? Space, peace, wildflowers especially Orchids, birds and myriads of insects. Easy access to Brantome, excellent local markets, the weather's not bad either!
Unique benefits of property A tranquil spot surrounded by woods and fields, plenty of walks from the doorstep. An excellent spot for birds, over 60 species recorded in the garden so far and close to 300 different wildflowers, not to mention the butterflies!

The Owner Recommends

A day in Nontron.

Nontron has an interesting circular walk to discover it's history and explore the beautiful gardens. Take lunch at the hotel Plisson and then visit the knife factory to see the famous Nontron knives being made, follow this with a visit to the chocolate factory, if you have the stamina!

Known as "The Venice of Perigord" Brantome is a beautiful and very popular town. It is therefore no surprise that boat trips abound here, either drift gently along with a guided tour or take a canoe if you're more adventurous! There is plenty to explore here and many bars and restaurants for refreshments. A weekly market on a Friday is very popular.

A variety of options here, you can canoe from Brantome down to Bourdeilles or be transported upstream and then paddle down to Brantome.

Grotte de Villars

An amazing underground cavern full of history with cave paintings and even a chamber with scratches made by bears on the walls. There is plenty here to amuse all the family.

Nearest Market

Brantome 12km. A market every Friday and a smaller "Farmers' market" on Tuesdays.

Nearest Restaurant

Brantome, about 10kms. away has around 15 restaurants catering for all tastes and budgets.

An historical site, a village which was the scene of a mass execution by the Nazis and is preserved in the state it was left as a memorial to those who died. Very moving.

A Wednesday market with the very best of the area, market stalls everywhere and you can find everything you want from rabbits to grandfather clocks!

Plateau d'Argentine

This site has an interesting circular walk around an area of outstanding natural history interest. It is a dry, hot (in the summer time) location with a variety of southern European/Mediterranean flora and fauna.

Top 14 Rugby

Come during the season and you're welcome to join us to see Brive play at home, it is a very colourful and noisy occasion!

Restaurant Cote Riviere.

A delightful riverside restaurant in Brantome with a varied and interesting menu. A regular haunt of ours.

VeloRail du Perigord Vert

A day out for the more energetic. Travel along the former railway line under your own power and at your own speed! Picnic sites and loos en route.

Restaurant, Le Moulin du Grand Etang.

A favourite spot of ours with superb food in a wonderful waterside location.

Aubeterre sur Dronne.

A picturesque small town with many restaurants and interesting shops. A visit to the underground church is a must.

Restaurant, Le Moulin du Pont, Lisle.

Another favourite of ours! Excellent value menus and a delightful riverside location.

A pretty riverside village with a superb Chateau to visit and afterwards take lunch in the square, we recommend the L'Atelier des Sens.

A delightful city, the Cathedral is a UNESCO world heritage site, and the Roman Museum Vesunna is amazing. Plenty of restaurants for lunch, our favourite is Le Seizieme which has a quiet terrace.

The gite is perfect for lovers of gardens and countryside.
The roads surrounding the gite are quiet and well maintained making days out very relaxing.
The owners make a real effort to make you welcome and make sure you have any food supplies if arriving late in the day.
The pool is clean and well maintained and loungers super comfy, the large sun umbrella is a godsend for a hot day as well as a gazebo over the outside dining area.
The balcony also has a dining area and has an excellent view over garden and surrounding countryside.
Plenty of towels and good quality bedding.
A better quality mattress would assure a better nights sleep and perhaps air conditioning as the bedrooms are in the roof space and become very hot.
This was our third visit and as everything else is so perfect we forgave the mattress.

Just returned from a wonderful wk here, can not recommend staying here highly enough. After a lengthy drive through France, Jon & Sally had taken care of everything to ensure that the last thing we need to do was to rush out to the shops. The house has everything you could possibly require whilst away from home and we tested that to its limits, with a flat battery and medical emergency! The house is set amongst the beautiful French countryside, giving us as parents a wonderful environment in which to relax, whilst the pool provided hours of fun for our 4 daughters (ranging from 4-10 yrs old), who also adored playing with Jon & Sally’s 2 friendly dogs. The house is fully equipt with dvd’s, uk tv, jigsaws (for the young and old), Lego, a selection of books for grown ups, fans, washing facilities, fantastic cooking and bbq’ing facilities. There’s plenty to do in the local area: we thoroughly enjoyed the canoeing, the 12k route from Brantome finishes in another beautiful places called bourdeilles, even if you don’t canoe here I would recommend a visit. Brantome was definitely our favourite local town with everything you need from culture and supermarket, to a variety of places to eat. Another fantastic day out is the Velorail in Corgnac, definitely go for the electric assistant option unless you do alot of cycling, don’t forget money for an ice cream half way, the return leg of the trip is a real treat!
If you like a good shop Périgueux is a pretty place to visit too!

Everything you could want for a lovely break in rural Dordogne. The gite has all that you could need and more and the garden and pool are stunning, the water is warm enough for everyone. Sally and Jon and their dogs are wonderful hosts. Canoeing from brantome is a must, as is the velorail if you are feeling fit.

Just returned from a wonderful second visit to this beautiful gite. We received a lovely welcome pack with a homemade quiche, bottle of wine, bread and milk and the owners were on hand throughout the stay for anything that we needed.
The setting is beautiful with an abundance of wildlife in the garden and surrounding fields and the sunsets are something else.
The location is very rural but for us perfect. Many local sites to see and a lovely swimming pool to relax by if that is preferred. Would highly recommend this for anyone looking for a french countryside break.
