My husband, daughter now aged 16 and I moved out to France in the summer of 2013. We had been keen visitors for many years, and the opportunity to buy a beautiful old Maison de Maitre presented itself. We fell in love with the house and grounds and our guests enjoy the privacy and space of the gite and its surroundings. We love that you can walk into the village and enjoy village life, buy your bread and be part of the community. Loads to do, see and eat in the area so guests are never bored!

|Why this location?||The weather is warm and sunny for most of the year, we do have some rain but that keeps the area really green and fertile. The local, community is incredibly friendly and you will always be greeted with a smile at the local boulangerie or restaurant! We are in the heart of the dordorgne, so there are many beautiful villages, chateaux, rivers to fish or canoe on. There really is something for everyone. It’s only a 10 minute stroll to the village - the little sports bar will allow you to buy your patisseries at the Boulangerie and eat then with their lovely coffe whilst watching village life go by. Tennis court is always open and free and their is a children’s play park just be the river - there are a range of beautiful walks in the area or you can hire bikes and cycle further afield. Great golf course 15mins drive away set in the grounds of a stunning chateau! There’s also a couple of Great Lakes nearby with high wires, camping, wake boarding beaches etc.|
|Unique benefits of property||The gite, which is part of the old Maison de maitre, is completely self-contained and has its own private access to the outside dining terrace and private pool. The riverbank also has a relaxing seating area, from which to sit in the shade on those really hot days, and watch the river meander past! The property has recently been refurbished and we ensure that everything is maintained to a high standard. The four poster suite is our guests favourite room, and the property also has two further bedrooms, one suitable for your children if necessary. The wildlife is abundant, we have sammy the red squirrel, who you will see in the hazelnut tree! Our friendly dog, Honey, will introduce herself to you, we have our own chickens so can provide our guests with fresh eggs! There are many birds, including buzzards, woodie the woodpecker, our very shy golden oriole, herons, ducks and may more. A truly idyllic location to spend a week or two!|

We spent a lovely two weeks here in August, and had a fantastic family holiday.
The Gite was full of character, and we liked the outside kitchen which we put to a lot of use, and enjoyed spending so much time outside. The saline swimming pool was great and big enough for a gentle swim and play. The setting was ideal, with lots of space, and a short stroll to the village.
Sarah and Nic were welcoming hosts and provided lots of useful information and on hand to offer advice as needed, but also unobtrusive. We enjoyed the visits by Honey, their dog!
The area is beautiful, and we loved the quaint historic villages and rolling countryside. There is plenty to see and do within a short reach. As well as much needed relaxing time by the pool, we explored the area. We especially liked Periqueux and Brantome (river jousting on a Friday was great fun to watch), and the many chateaus - Hautefort is worthy of a mention. The velorail was a fun activity, which we all enjoyed. We were these for the party in the village, which was memorable.
We came home with many great memories and would have no hesitation in recommending.
Hi Claire and Roger - thanks for your comments - we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and the surrounding area.
Thanks for being great guests!
What a lovely Gite, and great hosts - Sarah and Nic.
We spent two weeks here, at a time when the temperatures were soaring, but the Gite was nicely cool during the day and there are enough areas with shade, and plenty of parasols to hide from the sun when you need/want to!
The pool was spotlessly clean, and a great place to cool down, but still big enough to undertake a little exercise whilst on holiday. A good number of pool loungers for laying out.
The addition of the well equipped outside kitchen and dining area was invaluable. In the whole two weeks, we never ate indoors once. Breakfast and coffee on the outside patio seating whilst the sun came up, as well as using the built in barbeque (on many occasions) and the kitchen to cook an evening meal to eat watching the sun set over the trees and meadow.
Indoors the Gite has loads of space, and we particularly liked the old oak floors - so nice to walk on. Two full shower/basin/toilet rooms, one on each upper floor, along with a separate toilet and shower on the ground floor was helpful with a number of guests.
Nicely close and easily walkable into Corgnac for bread, bar and restaurant.
Visited the Marche Gourmand in Perigueux on Wednesday evening which was great (only about 35 minutes away) and a lovely atmosphere. Make sure you get there in time for the 7pm start to ensure a seat, as it gets busy,
All in all a great Gite (as described) in a lovely area with very helpful hosts. Would definitely recommend it to anybody
We had a lovely week here - the property was really well decorated and maintained - everything was there that we needed and we loved the outside terrace, where we spent most of our time. Brantome was well worth a visit, especially for the markets and the canoeing, we loved St Jean de Cole for a romantic meal out, and also the little village restaurant for lunch, as well as an apperitif at the sports bar! Lots for the kids to do, couple of big lakes close by, the high wire climbing at Nontron and Rouffiac, plus the velo rail in the village in you are feeling energetic! Definitely recommended for families of all ages.
It was lovely having you all as our guests, so pleased you enjoyed the area and we would love to welcome you all back next year. Sarah, Nic and Toni
Great holiday cottage in a fantastic location. Owners were really friendly and always on hand when we needed them. Huge garden, the pool is amazing, and we loved the outside kitchen, hardly used the one inside. The local village is a short walk and has a great bakery for bread etc, supermarkets only a 10 minute drive away. Lots of nice local walks if you fancy them and plenty to see an do in the area. Really enjoyed the 2 weeks we spent at le Gite Peyre St Front and would happily return.
