On the Dordogne - Correze border, although hilly this area is excellent for walking or cycling. Sightseeing trips could include Hautefort (15k) and its château. There are also horse riding, tennis, canoeing, balloon trips etc. Pompadour (20k) which also has a beautiful castle and is famous for its national stud farm and racecourse.
We returned this August with another family and friends, again we were not disappointed. This unique house is full of character, agree with a previous review, photos do not do it justice but we liked the element of surprise. Our friends and family loved it. Twins age 8, plus a 14 and 18 yr old, all played in the large pool several times every day, joined and supervised by parents.
Canoe trip from Montignac, beautiful scenery, safe and great fun. Further a field Sarlat la Caneda also has great canoeing.
Quiet times sat reading on the balcony with glimpses of a Kestrel in flight. Hautefort chateaux, gardens and local town - stunning. 3-5 km Cycle trips to Genis with the kids to the friendly bakery for croissants and bread, using some of the bikes provided. Daily BBQ's with plenty of seating and views.
Local restaurant in Genis, very welcoming, generous home cooked French cuisine.
Lots of lovely villages and markets to explore if you have a car. Can't wait to return.
House owner very helpful, responding efficiently via email when needed.
perfect location for a relaxing holiday.
Plenty of accommodation for 10 adults.
Definitely recommend for two families or a group of friends.
10/10 for this property everything you need is there, a fully equipped kitchen with a dishwasher, with 8 of us the dishwasher was used every day. The farmhouse it's self was fantastic beautiful to look at and really comfortable, we used the BBQ area almost every evening watching the sun go down with lots of local wine, did I say lots of wine hic hahaha. The older kids loved the wifi and the youngest would watch the television before bed. The day we arrived the kids saw the pool and before we could unpack they were in the pool, La Prade stands on its own and you don't have to worry about the noise you make with us it was sitting on the balcony and laughing about the day we had. There are push bikes there that the older boys used to explore, we took a bike for the 4 yr old. There are plenty of fans in the farmhouse as it does get hot, but if you close the shutters in the day it will be cooler in the evening, we would watch the bats every evening coming out of the barn it was a fantastic sight but take a tip do not leave the downstairs door open or the bats fly in, the 4 yr old with my husband had to persuade the bats to leave so funny, this is a fantastic place to have a holiday and we hope to go back, everything you need is there so try it and and a fantastic time as we did.
The Farmhouse is in excellent condition and had everything we needed for our weeks stay. The glorious weather helped too so the kids were able to use the pool every day as it is not heated so relied on the sun to heat it. We used to local village of Genis to get breakfast every morning and we pre-ordered in order to get what we wanted for the following morning as the ladies spoke very limited English. The local village of Hautefort has some fanastic restaurants (the one on the corner by the square has fab staff and gorgeous home cooked food and I would highly recommend it. We didn't book but they managed to find a table of 8 at short notice. If you are looking for a quiet retreat then La Prade is the place to go, the owner was very welcoming leaving us basic supplies on our arrival. The pool was a great size and very clean. We had an amazing holiday - it was just what we were looking for.
