France - Aquitaine - Dordogne - Perigord Vert
Brantome in the beautiful Dordogne is known as the 'Little Venice of the Dordogne ' and for good reason: The main town is surrounded by water and accessed by one of 5 bridges. The area is charming, romantic and should be on one's ‘must’ visit list.
The local villages surrounding Brantome offer the opportunity to site see other beautiful places. For the more active in Brantome there are the usual sports from cycling, riding, canoeing, to Microlights and paddle boards. Alternatively for those who like the quiet life, Brantome offers you a wealth of history, boat trips, lovely walks, many restaurants and scenery to enjoy with a glass of wine or two. We appreciate many self employed or senior management need high speed wifi when away from home and the house and garden are covered very well.
Brantome has many shops, hairdressers, doctors, pharmacy, supermarkets, banks and garages along with offering a good base to sight see and is in easy reach of five airports. For those travelling by sea, Brittany Ferries will offer you a 20% discount for travelling with them when booking our property.
The gite property is unique as the front part of the town house was built in 1800, the rear part being built into rock in more recent time with modern techniques and gas radiator central heating in time of need. In the 1800's the local area surrounding Brantome was thriving with the demand for stone and building properties.
This Brantome property has 3 double bedrooms, 2 lounges, 2 showers, 2 toilets, small riverside garden opposite, and on and off road covered parking, wifi and two bicycles. The house is a real tardis, very deceptive in size and lovely and comfortable. The rooms are bright and well proportioned. When exceptionally hot outside the pleasant internal temperate is exactly what makes this place so lovely. In the cooler winter period the gas radiator heating system quickly warms the temperature.
Whether morning, afternoon or evening, chill out and enjoy a glass of wine on the balcony looking at the superb views across to the village or river to the park.
Whether you wish to stay in France at one location or travel, Brantome in the Dordogne region is a real must for your itinerary.

Jill & Brian have renovated the house with local artisans over a number of years, the town house has both front and side access. It has been used over this period for Jill to design course material using local subject matter and collect photographic material for her Art School curriculum. Brian spends a lot of time supporting Jill ,and helping both the Royal British Legion and Arthritis Care Charities. Both love the town and surrounding villages and have many French friends.

|Why this location?||Brantome is without doubt one of the most beautiful villages set in a great area we have come across. It maintains it charm and romance whilst offering all the modern day conveniences. Brantome offers easy access and good routes to many local area locations and attractions. You will not see everything in one, two or even three weeks but you will have a fantastic time exploring or relaxing and many of of guests have returned again and again.|
|Unique benefits of property||Firstly it's unique for Brantome, it enjoys one of the best views, the size inside is like a tardis, old outside and modern inside. Rooms are generous and beds are not crammed in, quite the reverse. Within very easy level walking distance of the centre you can enjoy your holiday to the full. The town house gite has a lovely balcony and massive top floor lounge with attention to detail for guests requirements.
As one of our guest commented: - "The home was perfect. It exceeded our expectations, The owner had anticipated all our needs from his detailed book of instructions and local maps to the umbrellas and picnic supplies. The garage is a huge cave into which part of the home extends and the upper extra living room has a balcony overlooking the river and our own private garden. It is an easy 5-10 mins.walk into the beautiful town past the Abbey to the shops. We visited wineries, castles and towns but always looked forward to our return "home " We highly recommend this home to all.
We have provided a complete list and photos of places to visit that are within walking or driving with distances. These are held at the property for use during your stay.
We are situated very well for day visiting Bergerac, Perigueux, Limoges, Angouleme, Sarlat la Caneda, Rocamadour, Bordeaux, Royan areas.
Wow, what a location!
Just a couple of minutes walk along the river from the historic abbey and Hotel De Ville sits Maison Brantome. And it sits in a idyllic setting, nestling in the cave to keep it cooler than other houses.
Beautifully clean and tidy, and ready for action! To be fair, the pictures we saw before booking were great, but don't do it justice!
All the useful information you need on arrival is easy to find, superbly benefiting from everything you need that you have not brought with you, cooking facilities etc etc and a real home from home....even if it's wet there is a Nintendo Wii! Not that we saw anything like rain, hardly any clouds to be honest!
So whilst you will find everything you need in the house, including wifi access for the kids, or bigger kids, get out of the house, on the bikes there for your use, or on your feet and explore the beauty of Brantome....we took loads of pictures and have fantastic memories.
Everywhere has one failing.....this place....you won't want to leave the view or the setting.
The town itself has lots of reasonably prices restaurants, and better quality ones for those splashing out....or you can splash about a bit more and hire canoes and tackle the local weirs, many passing Maison Brantome's little haven of sunbathing and relaxing next to the river.
Lovely, lovely lovely relaxing week in the sunshine and we will be back, I hope.
Book it, you will not be disappointed!
Many thanks for taking time to complete your review which our future guests may also find useful.
We hope you book again to enjoy the romance of Brantome.
Jill & Brian
We couldn't have wished for more really, very good - value, clean, full facilities and easy parking.
Deceptive when viewing for the outside, so much bigger and modern inside.
Beds were comfortable and the room we had was huge, The other 2 bedrooms were good sized too.
A nice welcome pack went down well and the information provided pre and post booking was exceptional customer service. This covered just about everyone's taste and questions with some good travel tips too.
The weather was sunny and hot during the day but being early in the season was very cool first thing in the morning and night so a jumper was needed. The house central heating was very effective to keep us snug with a bottle of wine or two.
We used the Bistrot St Pierre twice and had very tasty steaks.Recommended.
Brantome is such a fab place to stay.
We would definitely return.
Thank you so much for your review, we hope to see you again some day
Excellent house in a wonderful
Took us a while to find house, our sat nav was convinced it was on the other side of the river !! We approached it through the cobbled streets through the town with the river to the left and found the house on the right. It had a large drive and parked within the cave. This cave was an amazing site in itself and we found many people wandering up to have a look. The house was lovely and cool, even on the hottest days. I would suggest extra layers at night. There is a small road between the house and the garden. We used the garden every day for all meals and relaxing. I was not expecting the area to be so beautiful. The views from the house and garden are wonderful. On the other side of the river was a park which hosted markets and small festivals. There was always so much to watch from the garden. Brantome was an amazing town. Lots of shops and restaurants. So much history to see. We kayaked a couple of times using the company in Brantome. This is definitely worth it, do try and book up as soon as you arrive as it can get busy in August. The journey is not difficult if you take a double or family kayak. Brian the owner was very helpful. He checked everything was ok and left a very helpful guide book about the house and area. Because of the nature of the house being built within the cave walls you do need to read all the information. Our family had a wonderful week in the house and would definitely like to stay again in the near future.
Dear Louise, Thank you for your review and we are so pleased you had a great time in our unique house and we do look forward to you booking again with us. Kind Regards Jill & Brian
Highly recommended and a definite 5 stars for everything
This was our 3rd visit to Maisonbrantome and the first with the children ( Age 5 and 7).
We arrived to a cool 33 degrees and though that was warm, the wine in the welcome pack was welcome as we relaxed in the safe and cosy garden overlooking the river. In fact we spent a lot of time in the garden relaxing and having our meals, and enjoying the very special views.
There had been many changes and new furniture since our last visit and the owners had clearly upgraded the property to ensure we had a comfortable property with good facilities. The wifi for my husband was appreciated.
As the week progressed it became very hot indeed but the coolness of the house was so welcoming at a constant 22-24 degrees. The main bedroom was large, clean and well furnished as was all the house. Parking in the cave meant we didn’t have sweltering hot cars to get into when we went out exploring.
There was plenty to do for the children and the crazy golf in the park was a great success.
We visited St Jean de Cole, Bourdeilles and Perigueux old town and the old Arena was something else, converted to a beautiful garden and pool. Our favourite eating places were Charbonnel in Brantome, Restaurant de Promenade and Les Minestrels in Bourdeilles.
A lovely memorable holiday thank you Jill & Brian
Many thanks for the review, we look forward to your 4th booking sometime soon.
