About this property

A Beautiful Gite with Private Garden & Pool. This cottage/gite is in a rural setting.

Le Gite (at Le Pommier) is a beautifully restored 2 bedroom farm workers cottage, ideal for couples or a family. It has a private garden, patio and barbecue, and shares the games barn and swimming pool and big garden with La Maison, the other holiday home at Le Pommier. We hope we've provided everything to make your holiday comfortable, relaxing and enjoyable at any time of year.

There are 2 bedrooms - the twin bedroom is upstairs with the bathroom, and the very comfortable (a recent guest says it's luxurious!) double is downstairs with an ensuite toilet and basin. The kitchen is well-equipped including a dishwasher and a dining table The lounge has windows looking out on to the beautiful courtyard, is decorated in shades of French blue, and has a stone fireplace and log burning stove. All rooms have heating should you be here at a colder time of year. Le Gite is available for Christmas bookings.
Situated in the Dronne Valley in a rural location, surrounded by fields of sunflowers and corn, gentle valleys and woodland, this is an area of outstanding natural beauty. Surprisingly it's only 5 - 10 minutes drive from Riberac with its cafes, restaurants, shops and the biggest market in the area every Friday. If you like to walk, run or cycle there is a quiet road that takes you into Riberac, it's downhill with some great views going, and not so bad coming back if you've had coffee and a croissant!

There's lots of space for relaxing at Le Pommier, be it lying by the pool, or reading a book under the walnut trees.

There are wonderful places to visit and things to do within a short drive: the Chateau at Bordeilles, the Abbey at Brantome, the Monolithic church in Aubeterre, the Cathedral and medieval lanes and squares of Perigueux. There are river beaches at Aubeterre and St Aulaye, and kayaking at many points along the Dronne. Le Grand Etang de la Jamaye is a huge lake with a beach and swimming, walks, and perfect areas to picnic under the shade of trees. We can recommend local restaurants for the occasions you want to eat out.

There are plenty of options for days out: a 25 minute drive to a train station makes it very easy to visit Bordeaux for the day, the vineyards of St Emilion are 1.5 hrs drive away, so is the beautiful town of Sarlat.

Kitchen and dining

A lovely country kitchen with table and chairs for 4. It's equipped with everything you need, including a dishwasher.

Living rooms

Decorated in shades of French blue with a stone fireplace and wood burning stove for Spring and Autumn evenings. There is plenty of comfortable seating and a flat screen television with UK satellite tv and a dvd player. The large window looks out over the pretty courtyard garden.

Downstairs is a luxurious feeling double bedroom with a king-size bed and a beautiful antique wardrobe and chest of drawers. There's an ensuite toilet and washbasin in this bedroom and there should be a shower by Spring 2019.

Upstairs there is a lovely large bedroom with original beams and twin beds (we've added 3" memory foam toppers to these beds to improve the comfort level).

The bathroom is upstairs and has a shower, toilet and wash basin.
We have a baby bath and changing mat if needed.

New for winter 2018, we've installed heating throughout Le Gite. We also provide wood for the living room wood burning stove. There are blankets for the sofa, or sitting outside with a coffee. We also have hot water bottles.

We can offer a mini 'archery experience' on site. This has proved very popular with gite guests of all ages.
The barn has table tennis, a pool table and table football.

If you're celebrating a birthday, special occasion, or just feel like some cake, Linda can make one for you.

Garden and outside

Le Gite has its own private garden with seating and a bbq. Guests also have use of the the pool and its surrounding gardens.

Parking and garages

Parking is outside Le Pommier on our track.

Visitor suitability

Ideal for families and couples.
We have cots, highchairs, a baby bath and a stairgate.
Access to the pool is through the barn which can be locked, and the pool has a safety cover (a child can safely walk over it) which is closed when the pool is not in use and overnight.

When we've installed the shower in the ensuite downstairs, it means there is level ground floor access to all facilities which may suite some guests with limited mobility.

Linda (catering and hospitality background) and Alex (an artist) look forward to welcoming guests at Le Pommier. We love living in this little bit of paradise (guests feel relaxed within minutes of walking through the gates) and sharing what we know about the area. We're still exploring! Year property purchased 2014
Why this location? We've been visiting family in this area for a long time and have grown to love it. When we found Le Pommier we were delighted to be only 5 minutes drive from Riberac with its vibrant market every Friday.
Unique benefits of property Le Pommier is in a rural location surrounded by farmland, fields of corn, wheat and sunflowers with the occasional patch of vines and some cows. We're members of a charity started to promote flora and fauna and protect the beautiful environment in our area. Amazingly we are only a 5 minute drive from Le Clerc supermarket and all the shops, cafes and restaurants in Riberac. There's so much to see and do in the area without having to go very far - swimming at river and lake beaches, kayaking, visiting the beautiful villages of Aubeterre, Bordeilles and Brantome, and enjoying good food and wine.

The Owner Recommends

Bordeilles and Brantome

Visit the chateau in Bordeilles then have lunch there before the short drive on to Brantome, which is absolutely beautiful. Or take a picnic and sit on the banks of the river watching the kayaking.

Grand Etang de la Jamaye

A huge lake with a sandy beach. Go for the day (parking is free), swim, picnic under the trees, go for a walk. There are cafes there as well. About 25 minutes drive

Great fun - starting points all along the River Dronne so you can choose route and distance to suit you.

Our nearest city, with a maze of medieval streets and squares with shops and restaurants. The Cathedral is stunning as well.

Riberac Market

The biggest market in the area every Friday and stop for coffee at one of the cafes

This was our third visit to Le Pommier and it exceeded our expectations once again! Linda and Alex are first class hosts who offer first class accommodation. Hard to believe that they can improve each time we visit but they manage it! They suggest new places for us to explore and eat at both locally in Riberac and further afield. We normally travel from Bergerac airport but came from Bordeaux this time and the drive was simple thanks to directions given. Wisteria out and beautiful, weather fantastic, location and gite as perfect as anyone would ever want it. Will defini try be booking again as, no matter what's time of year we have visited, we are in love with this little bit of paradise they have created.

Owner response

Thank you so much Susanna! I'm glad you had such a good time, and what amazing weather for the time of year. You've had good weather for all 3 visits, October half term, Summer holidays, and now Easter. The longer we are here, the more we discover about the area. We'd love to see you again!
Best wishes, Linda and Alex

Le Pommier in ideally situated in a quiet rural location, but is conveniently close to local amenities. The properties are traditional and absolutely comfortable to stay in. The outside spaces are excellent from barbecue areas, outside dining, the pool area (great large heated pool), the gardens, and the barn (with table football, darts etc). We spent many happy days lazing around the pool, dining outside in the evenings, and watching the stars come out from the swinging chair in the garden, we had a great time. Linda and Alex are the perfect hosts, friendly, knowledgeable and leave you to it but on hand when you need it. No hesitation in recommending Le Pommier
