Hi I’m Stuart, I’ve owned Le Petit Ranch since 2012. (Originally a working farm Owned and run by the old lady who now lives across the way). After numerous holidays to France I decided to buy somewhere with a view to making it my permanent home at some point. After a couple of years of hard work and restoration I could finally offer the gite out for rental.

The commune started to develop on an island encircled by a sweep of the river Dronne next to the Benedictine Abbey of Brantôme, which was founded in 769 by Charlemagne; according to legend he donated relics of Saint Sicarius (Sicaire), one of the infants in the Massacre of the Innocents. Those relics attracted pilgrims to the abbey, who also brought a certain affluence to Brantôme, but in spite of St. Sicaire's protection, the abbey was laid waste in 848 and in 857 by Viking rovers who had advanced along the Dordogne and Isle rivers to the Dronne. The abbey was rebuilt towards the end of the tenth century and again in 1465 and in 1480 after the end of the Hundred Years' War.
If you make it to the most north-eastern corner of the Dordogne department, beyond Thiviers, you will find the delightful fairy tale castle of Chateau de Jumilhac. Jumilhac is found in a picturesque setting very suited to the castle. The especially noteworthy feature here is the roofs - an extravaganza of towers and turrets that has led Jumilhac to be described as having the most romantic roofs in France. The myriad of turrets are then further enhanced by splendid ironwork and lead creations. The interior of the building follows much the same romantic theme, and features some ornately decorated rooms.

We had a fabulous quiet week and the weather was kind to us. The gite is done to an exceptional standard and is very good vale for a couple - rate to find smaller places with pools. The gite has everything you need, the owners have thought carefully about what people need. We were very well looked after by friendly "caretakers" who didn't intrude but gave advice and help. We will definitely return.
Hi Jan. Thanks for your great review. We are so glad that you had a fantastic time. We look forward to welcoming you back soon.
This is by far the best gite we have ever stayed in. Quite location, beautiful setting and a very thoughtfully presented property. The owners were helpful but discreet. We would highly recommend.
Thank you Mark for your kind words. We are glad you enjoyed your stay.
Fantastic gite. Could not fault anything as there was everything that we needed and more.
Beautifully furnished throughout and the owners made a real effort to ensure that our holiday was perfect.
The gite was immaculately clean and well maintained.
Even on our late arrival the owners took time to show us the amenities and how to use the facilities.
We spend most of our time in the gite due to the fact that we travelled with our toddler and two dogs but did really enjoy Brantome.
Would recommend this gite to everybody.
We had a great stay in mid May. The surroundings were lovely. So much garden space, a lovely private terrace area, very well maintained grassed area with trees and shrubs. The gite was very comfortable and the owners had pretty much thought of everything. Very easy to park and quite secluded, yet 5 to 10 mins from local amenities.
Lots to see within easy reach. A great area to explore villages, towns, chateaux and scenic rural walks and drives.
Very hospitable hosts offering help and advice where needed. Would love to return.
