Le Grenier At Le Pommier is perfect for a spring or autumn visit, be it a few days or a couple of weeks. Arrivals day and time is flexible.
It is a beautifully furnished first floor apartment with exposed beams and a balcony overlooking the courtyard and countryside. When it is occupied the ground floor isn't, giving you privacy and the use of the gite garden and barbecue. A walk through the games barn leads to the 10 x 5 swimming pool surrounded by tranquil gardens, walnut trees and countryside views. The room below the apartment is home to books, dvds, picnic equipment, tourist information and a washing machine.
The main house at le Pommier is available for lettings from the 23rd of July, so the pool may be shared. Please enquire.
Le Pommier is in a lovely rural setting surrounded by fields of sunflowers, wheat and corn, with occasional patches of vines, cows and horses. It is a great area for walking and cycling (although a bit hilly).
Riberac is about 5 minutes drive away and hosts the largest market in the area every Friday. There are supermarkets (Leclerc is close to us for stocking up on food and wine for your stay), boulangeries, cafes, restaurants and shops. There is also an organic supermarket.
There are wonderful places to visit and things to do within a short drive: the Chateau at Bordeilles, the Abbey at Brantome (known as the Venice of the Perigord), the Monolithic church in Aubeterre and the stunning Cathedral and medieval lanes and squares of Perigueux. A 25min drive to a train station makes an easy day trip to Bordeaux possible. There are river beaches at St.Aulaye and Aubeterre, and kayaking at many points along the river Dronne. Le Grand Etang de La Jemaye is a huge lake with a beach and swimming, walks and perfect areas to picnic under the trees.
There is a small but well-equipped kitchen, and a dining table and chairs in the open-plan living area.
There are 2 comfy chairs, a coffee table, tv (with UK tv), dvd player and wi-fi.
The balcony is through French doors.
Up a couple of steps from the living area is the bedroom. There is a kingsize bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers and 2 chairs.
Through a door from the living area. Shower, toilet and washbasin. Flooded with light from a skylight.
Heaters are provided.
Use of all the garden areas.
Parking is just outside the gates.
We are on a track so the only traffic is the post van or occasional tractor.
As the apartment is upstairs it's not practical for anyone with mobility issues.
Drive to Brantome in time for a wander around and lunch (we can recommend restaurants, or sit on the edge of the river with a picnic) then stop at Bordeilles on the way back to do the Chateau, well worth a visit and open all year. Have a little walk down to the river then back for a cold beer at one of the cafes. This all works in reverse as well.
