Totally Secluded Stone Cottage With Private Pool . This cottage/gite is in a rural setting.

A secluded cottage in an idyllic setting, set at the end of a small track with no passing traffic in beautiful Dordogne countryside. The cottage was converted from a 300 year old stone farmhouse to provide modern accommodation while retaining all of its rustic charm. It is maintained to a high standard and has all modern comforts and facilities to make your holiday as relaxing as possible.

The exposed stone walls and low beamed ceilings give the cottage a real olde worlde feel, and the thick walls keep the cottage cool inside and provide a respite against the summer heat.
In 2014 we installed a modern en suite bathroom for the master bedroom and we completely refitted the bathroom. Showers are roomy and you get a wide powerful spray, so, no dodging around to catch the drops from an inadequate shower head! Downstairs there is a full size washing machine in the wc.
The garden and pool are completely private and not overlooked by neighbouring properties. There are attractive paving and railings around the pool and a second patio area with barbecue make the pool and surroundings a real feature of the property. There are sun umbrellas and sun beds for relaxing by the pool and there is lighting in and around the pool so you can enjoy the long summer evenings.

To the front of the house, an open sided barn is used to shelter the car and as a wood store.

The cottage is on the edge of a small hamlet, and although there are neighbours on one side, they do not overlook the garden, which is on the opposite side of the house from neighbouring properties.
Towels and linen are provided, and for rentals of more than a week, clean towels and linen are provided weekly. The property is cleaned between rentals.



Kitchen and dining

The kitchen/dining room is triple aspect and has a quarry tiled floor. It is very well equipped with everything you could possibly need for your stay, including gas oven and 4 ring hob, microwave oven, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, toaster, iron, ironing board and there is a large farmhouse table.

From the dining area there are double doors to the patio and garden.

Living rooms

Triple aspect sitting room with a large fireplace and wood-burning stove. The walls have exposed stone and original alcoves, and the ceiling is beamed.

There is a new leather 3 piece suite, 40" LED tv with both english freesat and french terrestial channels, hard disk tv recorder, hi-fi system and speakers, etc.


The master bedroom has a double bed, wardrobes, and set of drawers and there is an en suite bathroom with modern shower, toilet and wash basin.

Bedroom two has a double and one single bed and there are twin beds in the third bedroom.

Oscillating fans are provided in bedrooms 1 and 2 to cool you down on those hot summer nights.

A travel cot is available on request.


2 bathrooms upstairs master bedroom en suite and a family bathroom with P- shaped bath, flat bottomed with shower over.

Downstairs there is a cloakroom/toilet, with full sized washing machine.


There is a wood burning stove as well as full gas central heating.


40" LED tv, all English free to air satellite channels and French terrestrial channels, hard disk tv recorder, hi-fi with floor standing speakers, bluray/dvd/cd player, boombox radio/CD player.

There is a bookshelf with local maps and guides and a range of other books.

Garden and outside

Outside there is a sunny patio with a retractable sun canopy for shade, and then just a few steps to the 10m x 5m swimming pool. With a pool depth up to 2m, you can dive, exercise and play to the full.

There is ample garden furniture for barbeques and relaxing. There is a kettle barbecue in the pool area and a portable barbecue is also available if you prefer dining closer to the kitchen

The gardens are extensive and there are grassy slopes and ancient woodland that you can explore along secret garden paths.

Trees near the patio and pool provide shade for those hot summer afternoons. The cottage is totally private, and birds and wildlife abound in the natural woodland.
We know that you want to keep in touch, even when you're relaxing by the pool, so we have provided wi-fi access not just in the house but in the garden too.

A rotary clothes dryer is located in a separate part of the garden, hidden from the main areas

Parking and garages

Plenty of room for parking at the front of the house.

Visitor suitability

Children will love the large pool and exploring in the woods.

Pets are welcome and dogs will love running around in the open spaces and woodland.

The property is unsuitable for those with limited mobility.

This is an ancient property and has low doorways and low beams, which require care, especially for those who are taller than average.

Four mountain bikes are available for rental at £10 per week each. Suitable teenage to adult.

About the Owner/Advertiser, Mr Andrew Dunn

We are Andrew and Adele Dunn, and we bought this delightful cottage in the tiny hamlet of Les Chauses in the year 2000. Because we use it as our own home when in France, it is much more than a holiday property and comes with every comfort you would expect for a family home. In 2006, we sold up in the UK and moved to France to live in the cottage as our main home. We moved back to the UK in 2010 to be closer to family, and we now live in Cumbria.

Bourdeilles (3km)

A picturesque village on the banks of the river Dronne with an interesting chateau dating from the 13th century. Bourdeilles is the closest village to the cottage and it has several restaurants and shops.

Brantome (10km)

Historic market town on the river Dronne, excellent restaurants, 11th century abbey and many other attractions.

Perigueux (25km)

Historic city with many attractions, unusual cathedral, roman citadel, etc

Riberac (25km)

Dating from the 9th century and set in the Dronne valley, Riberac is at its best on a Friday, market day for reputedly the biggest market in Perigord. At most other times it is fairly quiet.

A pleasant town in an attractive setting in the rolling countryside of the northern Dordogne. Sights include two attractive churches.
